What People Are Saying About Mario's Peruvian & Seafood

In Short – Tucked in a tiny Hollywood mini-mall, this SoCal Peruvian favorite buzzes with fish fans. Okay, so the stripped-down interior won't win any design awards, but the autographed photos from Latin celebs attest to this joint's popularity. Peruvian seafood cooking relies on super-fresh ingredients, and the interplay between hot and sour flavors is what gives it that zing. Mario's offers a shrimp ceviche offset by boiled potatoes, and green mussels on the half shell are piled high with pungent fresh salsa.
Pretty darn good

So far I have been to this place two times and my experience with the food has been really good. I usually get the seafood saltado. But on the other hand, the only one complaint I have is the bad service. The second time I went there, the waitress had more preference over these other people who were already there by constantly asking if their meal was ok and if they need anything and as for us she didn't care to stop and ask if things were cool until we were finished. The first time i went there, another waitress had an attitude problem. But so far so good =)
- Pros: Good serving size
- Cons: Bad service
Eat the Steak Saltado

Must highly recommend the Steak Saltado. I dip the bread they give you in the spicy green sauce...very addictive. A must if you're in LA.
- Pros: food is just incredible
- Cons: Decor...but who cares when the food is soooo good

Before eating here I had never tried Peruvian food, but ever since i first came here, i've been eating Mario's at least once a week. With an array of choices, you can't go wrong with their saltado (a dish that has meat mixed with sauteed onions and tomatoes, french fries and rice). I get their shrimp version everytime, but the beef and chicken are good too. Their dish called Jalea (a potluck of different fried seafood topped with lime juice and a salad mix) is awesome as well and a great alternative. I've come here so often that they have started to recognize me. All the waitresses are great.
This place is soo popular that on weekend nights the line is out the door. I suggest calling in and picking it up.
- Pros: Saltado, Seafood, fast service
- Cons: Long lines (Call in food), Closes early
