Editorial Review for Circus Disco – by Brian Baltin
The Scene
While most L.A. clubgoers know this sprawling complex as home of the glamorous, superstar DJ-anchored club Spundae on Saturdays, gay party people know it as a time-honored Tuesday and Friday tradition--and the two atmospheres couldn't be more different. An equally gorgeous, but more gruff-looking, b-boy-influenced male crowd gathers here to socialize and groove to a trademark blend of hip-hop, cumbia, salsa and house. Each genre gets its own room in the colossal ex-warehouse space.
The Draw
On any night, the giant dance floors command dancing, whether to Spundae's celebrity DJ guests like BT, Roger Sanchez and Erick Morillo, or to the gay crowd's eclectic, albeit more commercial mix. While Spundae's denizens shell out a lot more money for hard beats and swank atmosphere, the vibe is much more casual and friendly on gay nights. And when it's time for a little hot dog and smoking break, the outdoor patio is prime real estate.

Saturday nights Circus is the place to be for plenty of dancing room and great electronica music. The staff is awesome: they greet everyone with smiles, high fives and great attitudes. The drink prices are reasonable (8-10 dollars.) There are 3 very large dancefloors and plenty of room to sit down when your feet get sore. Outside there is a Mexican food snack bar (which by the way is DELICOUS) and even more room. I think Circus is a great place to meet people with a positive vibe, and a refreshing escape from pretentious LA overcrowded night clubs. Since it is the electronica scene, there are the typical overgrown 'rave' crowd (which is not my thing but it is never unbearable) playing with light toys, so if that is a problem, be forewarned. Such a wonderful alternative to Avalon and any other club I have been to in LA.
Pros: Friendly staff, reasonable prices, huge dancefloors, good music, tasty food, free street parking (if you're early)
Cons: 'rave' crowd

I never seen such a beautiful, elegant, hi-tech, spacy club so empty and inhabitant. All they Play is techno. The staff are friendly. I would generally think if they played a club with broader genres it would draw a better croud
Pros: Great Staff, After Hours, Large Space
Cons: Music, Small Crowd
