Don't Let Them Up-Sell You! – The midsize car we rented was just fine, and we didn't have any problems with it. HOWEVER, I didn't appreciate the clerk trying to upsell me on everything they had. Even after I told him I wasn't interested in upgrading to a Ford Mustang for an extra $20 a day, he still kept pushing me to upgrade from my midsize and it was annoying. It was 2:30 am and I just wanted him to shut up so I could get out of there with the car I paid for!
I pre-paid for the car through an Orbitz package, but they still needed a credit card on file when I got there - so I gave it to them. The clerk was VERY MISLEADING about the insurance, and unbeknownst to me I spent an extra $30-something a day for insurance that I didn't even need because I was already paying $9 a day for the basic. So, long story short, I'm livid because I spent a total of $500 to drive a rental car for a week - and more than half of that was insurance that didn't even cover anything. I guess that's my idiot tax because I can't do anything about it now...but all of you looking to rent from here, BEWARE and say NO to the upsells unless it's something you really want or need.
Terrible!!! – Reserved a car weeks in advance. Mid-size. Was told it was ready on arrival. Got there they had none or not even anything similar. Was told we could wait or "upgrade" for 13$ more. Upgraded but then was misled about the 20$ minimum insurance. Was told it was one time instead it was DAILY and didnt even cover anything except theft! Ended up paying an EXTRA 236$ even though reservation originally was only 200$ to begin with (yes 436$ total!) and since we was delayed kept the car a day less. Recieved no discount or refund even though delay was AVIS's fault...Tried to save a few bucks, ended up paying Limo prices! Will never use this company again...asked for recipt and never got it, called # never an answer. Try to call it right now if you dont believe me lol
... – avis is a great place they did everything they promised me n gave me upgrades for free
Horrible Customer Service – Avis promised my family and me a large SUV for a Christmas trip we were taking to the mountains, booked it, got a confirmation number, etc. Called to confirm the day before and the reservation had vanished. Edward, the manager on duty, personally ensured that a large SUV would be set aside for us. This was an issue of safety for my family and I'm most appreciative. Thanks, Edward.
Terrible Business Practices – My parents from Canada rented an SUV from the LAX AVIS and within 1 mile after leaving, the passenger side mirror FELL OFF after my father used the mirror controls. My mother, luckily, was able to catch it before it fell to the ground on Airport Blvd. They did get an exchange vehicle but when they got back to Canada, there was a bill for over $800 in damages! After several phone calls and wrangling with the claims department, they dropped the charges to less than $200 for the mirror. Still, my parents were not at fault and were taken advantage of. After all, when you do the "walk-around" to look for dents on a vehicle, how would you know if the mirror was broken and just nudged into place? This car rental place is not to be trusted!
