With its storybook stylings, this faux Tudor cottage looks like a Disney film come to life, which is probably why Walt himself dined here daily during the '30s. Once inside, the theme continues within a maze of rooms with ceiling-hung royal banners and Highlander bric-a-brac on the walls. Named after the Scottish-style men's hat topped with a pompon (often called a "tam"), the restaurant serves Scottish-inspired fare like Toad in the Hole, a puffy Yorkshire pudding filled with cubes of filet mignon in Burgundy sauce, and pork prime rib with mustard crust. And don't forget the Ale and Sandwich…

Know Before You Go:
Sunday brunch is served from 10:30am-2:30pm. Entrees are accompanied by complimentary champagne or sparkling cider, warm currant scones, blueberry muffins, orange marmalade and strawberry butter.
ambiance
100.0% positive
  1. The atmosphere is great, the waitstaff work very hard (most of the time) and the food is consistently good, so it does make up for it, most of the time.
  2. am sure my boyfriend wont take me out to a romantic dinner for a while, so I better enjoy this.
  3. The ambience is also outstanding.
  4. This is a fun place to be if you like REAL beer and pretty women (have you seen the waitresses there?)
  5. GREAT romantic spot.
  6. Great atmosphere too and nice waitresses.
  7. My husband took me to Tam O'Shanter's for Mother's Day with our 2 year old.; we had been to the Tam a few times before and while the food has never been outstanding, we always appreciated the ambiance and beer selection.
  8. Wonderful ambiance for a restaurant
  9. The bar is fun too, and the employees are a crack up in their Jethro Tull outfits, although you can tell they feel a little silly in them.

  1. Great prime rib and staeaks and don't forget the great desserts they have also.
  2. My favorite is the chocolate souffle!

  2. This is a fun place to be if you like REAL beer and pretty women (have you seen the waitresses there?)
  3. Entrees seem to be in the $15-$20 range, slightly less expensive at the bar.
  4. Lunch at the sandwich bar is also very good and reasonable.
  5. huge portions for stick to the ribs scot-english fare from the sandwich bar for a succulent beef brisket and beets for lunch to the full service restaurant for dinner.
  6. Our waitress was a "B", I asked her to return my "Body temperature" warm glass of beer and she became angry.
  7. And great wine menu and not ridiculously over priced
  8. get cranky when I get a glass of warm beer.
  9. Warm beer cold waitresses come on in!
  10. You can enjoy beer by the yard, have a true Yorkshire pudding, and end your meal with their signature dish.
  11. The bar is fun too, and the employees are a crack up in their Jethro Tull outfits, although you can tell they feel a little silly in them.
  12. He apologized for his rude tone to us and gave us free appetizers and drinks at the bar while we waited.

  1. My husband took me to Tam O'Shanter's for Mother's Day with our 2 year old.; we had been to the Tam a few times before and while the food has never been outstanding, we always appreciated the ambiance and beer selection.
  2. The prime rib is well worth ordering, you dont get to see them carve it from the big metal cart but the quality of the meat is excellent.
  3. The service was great, the food was delicious.
  4. had been there a number of times and recommended the Tam as a great traditional place with great food, I was not wrong it was excellent.
  5. Los Angeles used to be known for it's great and landmark restaurants, but in a time when most of those have fallen to the wayside the Tam thrives and still serves up an excellent meal.
  6. The pork roast is wonderful and juicy.
  7. My date was impressed, and it wasn't too stuffy, we relax and had a great meal, and enjoyed each others company with out being rushed out like at some other places.
  8. The Prime Rib is so delicious I can't get myself to try anything else!
  9. The food is reliably good (I especially like the filet w/ bernaise - yum!)
  10. like the scottish touch to it and the additions to the menu like the Toad in the Hole and their mushroom soup is great too.
  11. The best food and so tender you may not even need the knife.
  12. The food is excellent.
  13. In my opinion the roast beef was the best in town.
  14. well priced, friendly staff and great food all add up to a great time to sit and relax with your friends over a pint.
  15. Everyone, young and old, had a great time and it catered to what my guests were expecting; great place, great food, not too stuffy, where we can enjoy each others company.
  16. Lunch at the sandwich bar is also very good and reasonable.
  17. All other dishes are also of high quality, but just not as tasty as the prime rib.
  18. You can enjoy beer by the yard, have a true Yorkshire pudding, and end your meal with their signature dish.
  19. Over the years I have met many past patrons of the Tam O'Shanta, including the late Mr Charles Brookman of Hong Kong (He was the Speedo Agent),who was a regular visitor in the 1920's,when hamburgers were only a few cents and a good steak under a dollar.
  20. The fish and chips were excellent, better than Red Lion or Lucky Baldwin's.
  21. The rotisserie chicken is good but after getting used to Costcos for $4.99, all other rotisserie chickens seem dry in comparison.
  22. The majority had the prime rib, which was so tender, but they made delicious vegetarian pasta for a few of my guests.
  23. The food and service was excellent!
  24. Consistently good food.
  25. huge portions for stick to the ribs scot-english fare from the sandwich bar for a succulent beef brisket and beets for lunch to the full service restaurant for dinner.
  26. Our food was excellent.
  27. English food should be this good
  28. The atmosphere is great, the waitstaff work very hard (most of the time) and the food is consistently good, so it does make up for it, most of the time.
  29. Service was not very good - I had to ask a couple of different employees for forks and knives, and we had to ask for the "famous peanut coleslaw" that was listed on the menu but wasn't served with the dish.
  30. We went to our table and were served water and bread and before we could order our food.
  31. better than Lawrys, better prices, more choices of good REAL food.
  32. It was perhaps the most juicy, flavorful sandwich I had ever had.
  33. This is one of the best places in L.A, excellent food and friendy staff.
  34. Other than the good service and good food (which wasn't over priced) I love that even though the restraurant was packed it wasn't noisey.

Excellent Restaurant

by Banner1969

My wife and I had an wonderful experience on our recent visit. Prime Rib was great good meat, properly cooked, they had great side dishes, excellent appetizers and soups. Wine selection is great. Cocktails are good not over priced.

Environment is classic America we sat at the John Wayne Table. Music was playing but not on your face loud we could speak softly without yelling. Our server Jonathan was exceptional. helpful, polite and good. I strongly recommend you try this place out. Bon Appetite.

Cocktail Bar + Scottish fare + Special events = Yes please

by LaMaria

Check out the Robbie Burns events each year, listen to the carolers during Christmastime and enjoy the Prime Rib. The duck is also rediculously tender and delicious. The staff is extremely friendly! The outfits of the servers are a kick. Go to the Roost after for more cocktails.

  • Pros: The duck is phenomenal
  • Cons: Call ahead of time for reservations on holidays

Very underwhelmed.

by Seymour13

Very underwhelmed.

Went for an anniversary dinner and will not go back.

Had a reservation on a quiet night, many open tables, waited over 20 minutes, complained and got attitude from the hostess.

No apology for the wait.

Finally, taken to a terrible table and had to insist on another table.

Food was only OK, not worth what they charged.

Left a complaint on their website, no one got back to me.

Never again.

Very Romantic

by KaraYagakinski

I have always wanted my boyfriend to be more romantic. We have been together for four years, and I have given up on the idea. But when I least expected it he took me to this fantastic resturant. The service was great, the food was delicious. I am sure my boyfriend wont take me out to a romantic dinner for a while, so I better enjoy this. GREAT romantic spot.

Inept management

by owencev

So 7 of us went to Tam O'Shanter a couple of weeks ago for a friends birthday party. We didnt have reservations, so we told the lady that we didnt mind waiting at the bar for an hour while they found us a table. After 30 minutes the host came to us and told us that our table was being prepared for us and that she would take us shortly. We went to our table and were served water and bread and before we could order our food. The manger came and told us that "we" and taken the table from another group with reservations and that "we" were at fault and needed to move. I told the manager that it was "their" host that sat us, and it was "their" fault for sitting us. Plus, what kind of manger tells a group of customers that they were wrong? I thought that the customer was always right. He apologized for his rude tone to us and gave us free appetizers and drinks at the bar while we waited. We all went to the bar angry, but hungry and then were seated at a table next to our previous table within 10 minutes. The bill came and what we found was that he was charging us for the drinks and the appetizers that he told us were on them. He then said that he only promised one appetizer to our group and no drinks.

This would have never happened at Lawry's.

  • Pros: Looks nice outside
  • Cons: Management
