In Short – Surrounded by island artifacts and Bob Marley photos, this casual-clad crowd sips on calypso punch and island fruit smoothies while R&B music plays in this laid-back atmosphere. Yellow roses are stuffed in Jamaican Red Stripe beer bottles, makeshift palm trees are wrapped in lights and an island garden lines its windows, giving this restaurant a tropical vibe. Waitresses bring plates of jerk chicken, oxtails and other island favorites to tables of daters, families and friends.

Derrick's is the best Jamaican in LA

by graiti

That's right, Derrick's is even better than Cha Cha Cha! I've been several times. I've spoken to Derrick himself and he's a delight! The food is always spectacular (with the exception of their salads) and the portions are huge. Last time i was adventurous and tried the goat which was fantastic!

THe only CON to Derrick's is the location. It's sort of hidden behind a fast food restaurant and this horribly weird intersection between Centinella, La Tijera, and La Cienega. Took me half an hour to find it the first time. At least the parking's free once I found it!

  • Pros: Delicious Food. Free Parking
  • Cons: Location is hard to find

Horrible and I mean Horrible Customer Service!!!!

by slsmith2

A friend of mine introduced me to Derrick's a few months ago and I thought it was a great place to get some authentic Jamaican food. However, the more we went the more the service began to get worse. We went there last Sunday and it took the waitress (there were three of them) 15 minutes to even bring us water. And on top of that we were the ONLY ones in the restaurant. They were busy standing behind the bar gossiping.

We sat and waited and would have left if I wasn't so hungry. We both had the Jerked chicken as if we had too much of another choice since they had a special Menu for Mother's day that only included about four items to order from. We asked for a regular menu so that my friend could order a drink and one of the other waitresses walks over and tosses it on the table without looking at us and walks off. I actually think she rolled her eyes. Not sure what their problem was but they don't have to worry about us going back anytime soon to be so badly disrespected as a customer.

Although their food is pretty good the service is SO horrible I do not recommend this place. And Derrick if you're reading this you need to hire some new people or at least buy them a new attitude.

  • Pros: Decent Jamaican Food
  • Cons: Horrible and I mean Horrible Customer Service
