French Arrogance at Best. To this day, I have never encountered such arrogance from French waiters until we dined at this Cafe. I have studied in France for more than 10 years. Had never had any bad experience at any restaurant. I have heard many, many, bad stories about French waiters, especially from Cafe Beaujolais. I wanted to give it a try if its really true from what I heard. The food from this place, to be honest, is pretty good, even though it took very long to come to our table. The tiny room has a decent decor, but it was very warm. I was having an OK meal, until I ordered my Espresso. The waiter brought my beverage without ever asking if I needed sugar or cream. I had to wait more than ten minutes before some waiter payed attention. I asked the waiter," Can I have sugar? " He answered ," If you say PLEASE, maybe!!!!!!!! " Boy! I'm not coming here to beg for free food. I payed full price for food which tastes OK. What does that waiter think he is? My Mama?! I have to say please to him! Come On! Don't I have to pay tips !? That's what the waiter is here for , to help customers and to earn tips. I thought a good tip at the end would have taken care of everything. at the time he wanted me to say please, a tip of one penny was what he deserved. I WAS VERY PISSSSD!

Humorless Machismo. The food's okay, it ranges from an unfortunate mayonaissey, out of season salad to a nice salmon plate. The difficulty I have with this restaurant is the customer service. Come on guys, relax. We get that you work out a lot and that your FRENCH. Noted, box checked, read you loud and clear.

Good food, bad service. This cafe proves true to the French stereotype and gives all my French friends a bad reputation. The servers were so rude! My girlfriends and I were there early to secure a table before the mad dinner rush. The server kept moving us around and rudely pointed out that we were over our time limit...What? SORRY TO BE SO DUMB that I didn't realize we had to inhale our food and leave to make way for others who decided to come during the dinner rush. Then dinner turned to be good, not great but good. But the time we ate the taste in our mouth has already taken a turn for the worse...

Avoid. A bad beginning to a nice weekend.

After moving to another table to get away from kids who wouldn't settle down near us, we then had to wait 35 minutes for our entrees (NY steak and lamb).

The baguette, lobser bisque, and Syrah Grenache might have made the wait easier if they had had more taste. And the entrees themselves might have made the wait worth it if they had had more flavor.

Instead, we were rewarded for our wait by being told by a haughty French waiter that if we didn't want to wait, we should try Tommy's hamburger joint down the street.

Next time we will.

if you know what its like to dine in france you will have a great time @ cafe beajoulais!. First of all it reminds me of a restaurant i had prevously visited when i went to France last year. PERSONALLY...I understand why all of you "Americans" do complain about the S-L-O-W- service.. It's not that they are slow they are letting you enjoy your company, letting you enjoy your food and environment. Must someone wait on your every hand and foot? Some people should get to know what real provincial French food and Service are like then complain. I had a great time with friends at this restaurant it is always a favorite. They have great food. Moderately priced. Great deserts. Great handsome waiters;). A good place to go out with friends or good company.

Cafe French Rugby. We had a group of six seated promptly on a Friday evening at 7:00. That, and the occasional visual thrill of being served by members of a French rugby team was the best part of our evening at Cafe Beaujolais. We worked through appetizers that seemed to be assembled directly out of packages from Trader Joes (mediocre pate, boursin cheese). The salads that were built around tomatoes that were out of season and mealy. A soup of the day that was described by our waiter as celery soup, arrived as a cream of brocolli. When we informed the server that we ordered celery soup, his flat response was "It's broccolli- what do you want to do about it" We held out hopes for the entrees, since the place kept filing up, we figured that there must be more going on than our appetizers and the service were letting on.



While the duck was cooked and served nicely, our 4 beef entrees were all mild disappointments, and a steak with frites had the texture of boiled meat. Except for the boiled like meat, the other entrees would have been half decent bistro fare. But the prices ($18-24) for what was offered, and the service which served up swagger but little customer service came up short. Plainly put, for the price, it sucked!

from perfect French to ugly American. Oh no!!! We have frequented (and loved) this restaurant since the very beginning. After a somewhat prolonged accidental absence, we recently returned to find, sadly, that everything has changed. To sum it up, they super-sized it. All of the portions are two or three times larger than they once were, and the quality has declined in inverse proportion to the size of the servings. The starter salad was for years my favorite simple salad in town, because it was just greens, dressed in fantastic olive oil. Now it is a massive pile, overdressed in flavorless vinaigrette, garnished with huge wedges of tasteless tomatoes and an inexplicable orange wheel. We were not offered pepper and I understand, because it would not have helped. The same goes for the rest of the menu...I was part of a party of eight and thus got to taste nearly everything on the menu...and overall: blah. If we wanted huge, bland portions we could eat at IHOP. The service, which used to be so attentive, was lousy. The staff can no longer be bothered to refill water, so bottles of room-temperature water for you to refill your own glass are provided...good luck getting a refill once those are empty. Our food arrived at different times and a few orders were mixed up with another table. Saddest of all were the desserts...the once delicate profiteroles are now mushy, huge and tasteless. I honestly believe they may have been pre-packaged and garnished with a squirt of canned whipped cream and Hershey's syrup. SO SAD!!! The apple tart was also massive and bland. What a disappointment after so many years of excellent food and service. The prices are still reasonable, which was the only consolation. However, we will not be returning. A shame.

Excellent, authentic French food. My husband love going to Cafe Beaujolais for special occasions. The other night we went for our 20th anniversary, and it was perfect. The French waiters were attentive, the food arrived quickly, and it all tasted fantastique! At one point the waiter gently scolded my husband for not touching his spinach flan, so he took a taste and discovered that he loved it. My favorite dish was the chocolate mousse. It was served in a wine glass with fresh whipped cream on top. It was so thick that I couldn't finish it, but the waiter was happy to put it in a box for me to take home.

Editorial Review. Eagle Rock neighborhood French country-style restaurant serves hearty, unpretentious dishes like lamb stew, escargot and creme brulee.

The waiter forgets our food and tells us THIS IS NOT AN ITALIAN RESTAURANT!. We heard good things about this place from friends. We went with high expectations. It was busy when we ordered appetizers and entrees. The appetizers arrived in a decent amount of time, but after we finished them nothing else arrived. We waited patiently until it the restaurant started to empty out and it became obvious that absolutely nothing was happening in the kitchen. We concluded that our waiter had forgotten to place the rest of our order. So we politely asked that they cancel the rest of our order if they hadn't started it. The waiter became indignant and haughty, and loudly scolded "This is not an Italian restaurant!" We still haven't figured that one out, but we won't be going back to find out.
