Editorial Review for Gotham Comedy Club – by Scott Makin
The Scene
Housed in a landmark Flatiron building, this club prides itself on booking comics who raise the bar of civility without ever losing sight of the main goal: making you laugh. With bars made of solid oak and copper, subdued lighting and an antique turn-of-the-century bronze chandelier, these graceful digs create an elegant yet unpretentious tone.
The Draw
Unsurprisingly, you've got to pay for upscale, so Gotham Comedy Club always enforces a two-drink minimum (with food available). But swank attracts rank, so performers like Jim Gaffigan, Todd Barry and the blisteringly funny satirist Lewis Black have all played numerous times. Even Jerry Seinfeld has been known to stop by unannounced for a set. In addition to headliner shows, programming includes multicultural series like the Latin-themed "Comedy Salsa" and the gay-centric "Homo Comicus." More conventional fare during the week might include sketch comedy and new-talent nights.

went there after work with my close friends. it was a nice place. great service. drinks were good. however there is a cover charge and a two drink minimum per person. the comedians were not hilarious. I mean i have seen better. but overall it was great experience and nice to go after work and just sit bak and laugh

I went to Gotham on my vacation last week and had a great time. Our hotel told us about it and we decided to go even though we weren't that familiar with the comics. So awesome! The openers were really good and got us going and the headliner made me laugh harder that i had in a long time. It was a little crowded but once the show started i was laughing too hard to care. the liqour selection was good and i liked that we could order food there too. I will definitley go back.
Pros: Comics, atmosphere, service, food
Cons: crowded
