Editorial Review for Maloney & Porcelli – by Paul Adams

The Scene
This is a power-dining scene, with aggressively present staff, smooth, streamlined operation and a crowd that means business. The dining room is spacious and decorated with an abundance of Americana bordering on the ludicrous: folk-art bald eagles, Stars-and-Stripes neckties, a miniature flagpole on each table.

The Food
The menu includes both classic steaks and slightly more modern dishes. The headline entree is the crackling pork shank, a two-pound piece of unnaturally tender meat with a crisp, deep-fried skin. The rib steak is big, crusty and flavorful, and rare filet mignon is soft and juicy. Seafood entrees, such as an order of large seared sea scallops, can be a little lacking in flavor. Desserts, like the drunken donuts, combine whimsy with delicacy.

Maloney & Porcellii has a great Weekend Wine Special where you pay $75, get a three course meal (off the menu not a prefix!) and get unlimited wine. They put 4 glasses (champagne, white and 2 reds) in front of you and fill up whatever you are drinking most frequently. I've gone 4 times now on Friday evenings with intimate parties or in large groups and every time I have been so pleased with the evening. My steak was cooked perfectly and the wines were really impressive. The waiters have always been honest and attentive which is appreciated. This special is made for the 25-35 year old crowd in the city who would love to get a great steak dinner and a couple bottles of wine but can't afforfd to go for the $200+ each that it takes without such a great special.

Pros: The Weekend Wine Dinner is incredible

Cons: That the special is only on the weekends

There are a lot of steakhouses to choose from, but my friend heard about this thing at Maloney and Porcelli that is $75 for a 3 course meal, and then unlimited wine (there are 4 wines offered). I have to say that it was AMAZING. The food was wonderful, and the wine was great (and a lot of it at that!). I'll definetly be back again soon.

Pros: $75 for a 3 course meal

Cons: They only serve the 3 course meal at limited times.
