view & uploadrude service, highly recommend place, very affordable quality, best dynamite rolls, love sushi mac, decent food, rude quality sushi

If you’re lookin’ for happy hour prices outside of happy hour, then you may as well call this place Sushi Kool. Good rolls for great prices, and free parking in the lot out front – new lunch spot, perhaps?
Avoid at all costs. Sure it's cheap - they even do the math for you with a handy chart of how much X number of plates at $2.75 dishes cost you. But the price you'll pay later as the low grade fish hits your stomach will be much higher. i don't know what everyone could be thinking to give this place such high marks. Clearly they've never tasted quality fish.
WORST SUSHI EVER. Yes, it only cost $2.75 per plate, but it's GROSS. The rice is hard (yech) as though it's been left out for days, and the fish tastes really fishy and smells like, well old fish. After eating here we actually had to make a beeline for ice cream just to get the terrible taste out of our mouths. But the aftertaste is pretty persistent, so you'll probably need to floss, brush, and gargle when you get home. Honestly, it is not only the worst sushi I've ever had, but quite possibly the worst meal I've ever had at a restaurant. Send your enemies here.
Okay sushi, but rude service. I have gone their over the last 7 years on a somewhat regular basis when I am in the mood for a quick cheap meal. The sushi is OKAY at best but not horrid. I have had only 2 bad experiences and both with the same sushi chef. He is rude, dumb & lacks skill to the art of sushi. He burnt my tempura shrimp on one occasion and overcooked my edamame on another (which he said he microwaved them), upon my request for a new replacement dish he argued with me and refused to replace, even though he knows I am a regular.I paid the bill but with no tip! Probably won't go back anymore since I found revolving sushi on Ventura Blvd @ Louis in Encino, they give you every 5th plate free. Bonus- they also serve wine and beer. Well, SUSHI MAC it was nice knowing you but thanks to your rude sushi chef you lost a regular customer forever! Penny wise & pound foolish.
cheap sushi. good sushi. ive been coming to sushi mac since high school. how can you resist $2.50 sushi plates? yum! the sushi isnt like sushi from the posh sushi bars, but it's good & tasty, nonetheless. i highly recommend this place for people looking for cheap tasty sushi.
IS EVERYONE INSANE???.
I've read most of the previews for this place & thought to myself... these people are out of their friggin minds!!! GOOD SUSHI???
First of all... the price is now $2.75 a plate, but that's neither here nor there. Here's my beef - I'm not a picky eater at all, and can't really tell the difference between alright sushi and fabulous sushi... but after eating at this place, I now know what HORRIBLE sushi tastes like. Their tempura rolls are cold b/c they were fried like 20 minutes before you even placed your order... which means by the time it gets to you, it's cold, soggy battered shrimp. The sushi rice is hard, like if you left a bowl of rice in the fridge uncovered for a day. Their answer to everything is spicy mayo... and get this... they have edamame already separated in individual bowls, ready for the moment you order it! Who knows how long it's been sitting there. Disgusting.
Only people who don't have a clue about sushi would like this place.
MY SUGGESTION FOR DECENT CHEAP SUSHI: Daichan Kaiten. It's across the street, in the Olympic Collection center, upper level. It's a revolving sushi bar ($2 per plate). Quality is better, cost is cheaper, & there's more variety. And way better atmosphere.
Great Value BUT....
...pound for pound one of the best Sushi places in town...but few people eat Sushi by the pound, or for a cheap meal...
SIGN UP - when you first get there, there is a waiting list on the wall, find it and sign up...it took forever for us to be seated and a couple got down before us because they signed up and we didn't...
The food is fine, but the bad atmosphere, limited choices make it a place to eat, not a place to eat out...I think I'll do take out there, or off peak time meals...but it's not a great overall experience.
What is not to LOVE?!. I was introduced to Sushi Mac my first week in LA and have been going back weekly ever since. Cheap, tasty and easy. Try the Spicy Dynamite Mac Roll..and the spicy mayo they serve as an alternative to wasabi is addictive!!! Love it here and it is the best place to drop in for easy Sushi and only spend 12ish dollars. The plates did go up to $2.75 each- but still unbeatable for taste and value.
Editorial Review. Los Angeles-area sushi mini-chain boasts counter service with a water-filled conveyer with plates of sushi; grab what you want as they float by.
Yum Yum Yum. You can't beat $2.50 for a plate of delicious sushi (the spicy tuna is my fave)!! Parking can be challenging on a busy night but well worth it!
Best Sushi Value in LA!.
I love this place. Have been going here for almost 7 years and it never disappoints. Absolutely the best value for sushi in LA. Only $2.50 a plate for every kind of sushi in the house and that includes taxes. Hard to beat that. Spicy tuna is amazing. Handrolls are available, just ask. VERY fast service -- not sure what the other reviewer is talking about. They give you your plates in under 3 mins.
Bring cash with you. No credit cards accepted here. Also, this is the original and the best one out of their 3 locations.
Parking is small and no room when it's busy since it's on a plaza. I recommend parking at Old Navy across the street. They validate for 1.5 hrs for free.
