Editorial Review for Bossa Nova – by Scott Weier
The Scene
This neighborhood eatery has won a crowd of devoted customers with its laid-back atmosphere and consistently delicious food. Lunch is the busiest time of day. That's when young Hollywood insiders and incognito WB stars crowd the restaurant's breezy patio area.
The Food
It's all about the grilled meats and Brazilian spices here. Tender chicken breasts or snapper filets are marinated in a citrus blend and accompanied by sweet, gooey plantains, black beans, rice and yucca flour. These meals are true belt busters. The pesto verde pizza is another delightful treat--robust pesto sauce and a smattering of goat cheese play beautifully off the sun-dried tomatoes. For a lighter meal, opt for the Bossa salad, a cobb salad enlivened by Gorgonzola. Finish Latin-style with a café con leche and a buttery coconut flan.

We had a great waiter and bus boys--the service was very warm and attentive. They have a HUGE menu (according to our waiter they just added 48 new dishes...) and nearly all the food sounds (really, looks) appetizing. Unfortunately, most of the food, including the white rice, black beans and sauteed veggies are prepared with chicken broth. The plantains, yucca flour, steamed veggies, salsa and marinara are a go though. And the coffee, though likely not fair-trade, is full-bodied and delicious (plus it is served in large, bowl-like cups). The only downside to the steamed veggies is that they are kinda plain...it would be nice if they added their Brazilian spices; topping the veggies with a side of their salsa makes for a nice remedy, however.
Pros: Service, Quiet weeknight atmosphere
Cons: Limited vegetarian options

Bossa Nova has a good history of great food, but I have a problem with their service/management. Two out of the last three times I've ordered from Bossa Nova, they have screwed up the order. One time they even forgot to make my ENTIRE order and I had to wait there while it was being prepared. The last time I went to BN, they forgot one entree, and screwed up another. When I confronted management about the issue, she began to argue with me in front of her employees/customers. The whole scene was awkward and unnecessary. Anyways, I have decided not to order from BN anymore because of my treatment and their string of screwups. I hope you have a different experience with them.
Pros: Food is decent, employees are nice
Cons: Parking, Management
