What People Are Saying About Gardens of Taxco

Featured Review

In Short – Like a dark comfy home in Mexico circa the early '70s, this West Hollywood hideaway is decked out with tin flowers, funky wood paneling and faux stained glass. Gregarious waiters decked out in guayaberas sing basic entree choices like beef, chicken and shrimp dishes to guests. The menu consists of five courses--appetizer selections can include cheese quesadillas, shredded beef enchiladas and albondigas soup. A shot of sherry and banana pudding completes the meal.

  2. The kitchy retro decor and the waiters traditional dress complimented a delicious authentic Mexican feast.
  3. They have a guitarrist who by the way sings very nicely; very romantic.
  4. Amazing food and fun atmosphere
  5. the meal comes with traditional appetizers and a dessert and the ambience is very comfortable.
  6. The ambience is great, the margaritas even better (although not tequila based), but the food is rather bland.
  7. This is a culinary experiance - come here for a romantic, fun evening - if you are looking for a place to toss down a couple of tacos, then you are in the wrong place!
  8. The atmosphere is quaint and eclectic, and the food and wine margaritas are excellent!
  9. This place is unique all on it's own, and the only downside is there is no parking nearby.
  10. Very nice service, friendly, family atmosphere, but bland, bland, bland food
  11. Not the place to go if you want a quiet, romantic dinner but the place to go when you're hungry, not in a hurry and are getting ready for a night on the town or entertaining a group.
  12. Great for groups or for romantic dates.
  13. If you're a snooty gourmet with your nose held high as you enter the room, then stay in Beverly Hills but if like Sheryl Crow, you just want to have some fun - then this place may have been the inspiration for her chat topping song!
  14. The atmosphere is great, the service is excellent (and has some creative angles -- Just go, you'll see) and the food is out of this world.
  15. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff is extremely helpful and professional and the food was amazing.
  16. When you arrive the staff are friendly, the atmosphere is great and you get the menu relayed to you, don't expect a regular menu here.

dessert
80.0% positive
  1. The meal is typical of true Mexican fare: plenty of mouth watering apetizers such as quesadillas and Margarita pie, followed by his wonderful Albondiga soup and then to the nitty - gritty: the Main Course.
  2. the meal comes with traditional appetizers and a dessert and the ambience is very comfortable.
  3. They start you off with chips and salsa (salsa is great), followed by a cheese quesadilla, a small enchilada (yummy sause), your main course, and a banana cream dessert that is to die for.
  4. One course, a quarter of a quesadilla that I make better at home, a cheese enchilada that tastes like it's made with Velveeta, soup with no flavor, the main dish is ok, but not spectacular and the banana cream dessert is awful with cheap port.
  5. The banana desert was unexpectedly delicious.
  6. thought that was very accomodating, The shrimp with garlic and the chicken in cream sauce were outstanding.
  7. The meal is rounded out by a delicious desert and a glass of sherry for that extra final touch!
  8. They serve tasty appetizers before your entree and a dessert to finish off with
  9. The drinks, the main entree and whatever dessert was served to us was gross and unmemorable.
  10. Their sauces are unlike anything else - my fave is the cream cilantro sauce.

  3. The drinks, the main entree and whatever dessert was served to us was gross and unmemorable.
  4. The wine margaritas are terrific, and the "cheap" sherry after dinner is just fine.
  5. For those that complained about the lousy margaritas (and you should really learn to spell dude) keep in mind the margaritas are made with wine and are fantastic.
  6. Perhaps it was the disappointing wine-based margaritas, which would have been less so if we were expecting that.
  7. If you love great service, food, and drinks this is the place for you.
  8. The drinks are potent because the food is pretty standard - maybe even sub-par for a mexican place with such history.

Very Authentic! Always An excellent experience!

by cgmfilms08

First off to anyone who has claimed their their food is not authentic... where are you from? This is absolutely Mexico City style food. It's what they claim and it's what I can prove to you.

This is the one place I always bring my family from Mexico to. Although different regions prepare their dishes differently this is definitely Mexico City at it's finest.

The "no menu" concept although hard for some less sophisticated reviewers to grasp is part of the ambiance and mystique of the restaurant. It allows the waiters to recite the dishes to you... enticing you with their descriptions as to how each dish is prepared... "as if it was born in the sauce."

Be prepared to be serenaded by wonderful food, great service and atmosphere and a song by their solo guitarist, very typical in Mexico to have someone like that serenade your table and yes he'll do it for tip money.

5 stars from this reviewer on taste, authenticity, wait staff and guitarist!

Been a happy customer for 12 years.

by LolaPearl

One of my favorite restaurants. I found this place in 1999 while was still living in SF and working in LA. It was love at first bite when I tasted the Shrimp Puerto Vallarta. Since I've moved to in LA in 2000 this place has been a tradition to take my parents to (they pay!) everytime they come down to visit. Just called to make a reservation for the day before T-day.

Can't wait !!!!

Authentic mexican food. Classic style.

by Tony Larson

This place is unique. You cannot compare it to any other eating establishment. The food has been the same for decades. Yes, good food, not the greatest, but the experience is what people go for.

The service is special. The or deurves are endless and the margaritas are not worldly, but you cannot but help enjoy the evening.

This restaurant is known the world over.

Literally, stands there and coughs till you shell over some dough. What an annoying experience. Oh, and worst of all, the food was crap.
