Very Authentic! Always An excellent experience! – First off to anyone who has claimed their their food is not authentic... where are you from? This is absolutely Mexico City style food. It's what they claim and it's what I can prove to you.
This is the one place I always bring my family from Mexico to. Although different regions prepare their dishes differently this is definitely Mexico City at it's finest.
The "no menu" concept although hard for some less sophisticated reviewers to grasp is part of the ambiance and mystique of the restaurant. It allows the waiters to recite the dishes to you... enticing you with their descriptions as to how each dish is prepared... "as if it was born in the sauce."
Be prepared to be serenaded by wonderful food, great service and atmosphere and a song by their solo guitarist, very typical in Mexico to have someone like that serenade your table and yes he'll do it for tip money.
5 stars from this reviewer on taste, authenticity, wait staff and guitarist!
Been a happy customer for 12 years. – One of my favorite restaurants. I found this place in 1999 while was still living in SF and working in LA. It was love at first bite when I tasted the Shrimp Puerto Vallarta. Since I've moved to in LA in 2000 this place has been a tradition to take my parents to (they pay!) everytime they come down to visit. Just called to make a reservation for the day before T-day.
Can't wait !!!!
Best Mexican Food in LA! – I was there for my Birthday and 9 other friends. The Food was Great and soooo filling we could barely move. This is a fun place and the food has to be the Best Mexican Food in LA. Thanks for making my birthday special.
Authentic mexican food. Classic style. – This place is unique. You cannot compare it to any other eating establishment. The food has been the same for decades. Yes, good food, not the greatest, but the experience is what people go for.
The service is special. The or deurves are endless and the margaritas are not worldly, but you cannot but help enjoy the evening.
This restaurant is known the world over.
Lousy - Dont Waste Your Time and Money – Bad food, dumb concept (no menu, etc). Inauthentic food, annoying waiter, and a guy with a guitar who comes around and plays a song and then waits for you to give him $2. Literally, stands there and coughs till you shell over some dough. What an annoying experience. Oh, and worst of all, the food was crap.
pretty good, but overrated – The food was pretty good, Not really Mexican food.
truly let down by the margaritas!!! wow- those were bad!!!
OK to go to if you have one of the two for one coupons!!!
Amazing, Fun and a Unique Mexican Dinner Experience – Gardens of Taxco is a great meal at a great price. There is no menu, so it's as easy as it can get. First you get vegetables and chips (of course), followed by a small quesadilla, then an enchilada, then your main course with rice beans and tortillas, and at the end with a dessert and a glass of sherry. By the way we got a pitcher of a great margharitta as well. Our bill came to $66. Go and enjoy!
Great Food, Fun Atmosphere – The food is consistently good, as are the margaritas. This is not somewhere you go for a quick meal. Plan on spending some time enjoying the fun, yet slightly cheesy atmosphere.
Food so good I will drive over an hour one way to Dine Here. – This has been one of my favorite restaurants since the early 1970's. The waiters are fabulous and so effecient. No Menus is a nice touch. The food is the best I have found. My children have all eaten here at some time and still talk about their experience. My older children have returned on their own over the years. I now live in the Antelope Valley and look forward to my trips to Hollywood to enjoy dinner here. I will come back again and again. The wait can be long but the food makes it well worth the wait.
Foamy margies? – finally went. not impressed. I hated the margaritas- they were foamy.
Service was interesting- but nothing grand- wow, they roll their Rrrrr's.....
Some good was yummy- some just so-so.
