Rudest owner in town -- stay clear
by arp1701
Rudest service experience I've had in LA. The owner is a horror. And, no, I'm not a competitor, just a peeved customer.
I asked for chopsticks with my order and was refused. I was told I'd "only" ordered the lunch special. I hadn't spent enough money to merit a two-cent pair of chopsticks. I thought the owner was joking. She wasn't.
The food is beyond bland. The location is central -- but it's not worth this ridiculously rude service. I will not be back. Save yourself the trip.
A Wretchedly Surreal Experience

I have read the previous reviews, so I include that I went to Hunan tonight, a white 27 yr old, with my white friend. I tried to order the mushrooms w/black bean sauce and was told, "people no order so we don't make" I was unsure what this meant as it was a simple combination of ingredients already on the menu, so I just ordered soup instead. My friend ordered an entree. We waited for half an hour or so, which didn't bother us too much since we had the time to spare before going over to the DGA. The hot and sour soup was lacking all mushrooms I am accustom to seeing in the dish, so I can only conclude that the entire restaurant was void of the item. It was bland and unmemorable but not horrible. After finishing we waited another ten minutes before choosing to go inside to pay. With no other customers inside, the older woman points at a number on a blank piece of paper. 27 something. There was no way this was our total. So I thought she was mistaken and politely pointed to our table and started to tell her what we had. Immediately she started to scream at us. I am telling you, it was CRAZY; unlike anything I have ever experienced at a restaurant. I asked her to explain the price she started an item list that was contradictory to the prices on the menu. So I reached for the menu and just said, no...this is the price it says so right here. And she screamed in my face, "NO Menu ten year old! Everyone know!" I started to argue with her but she wouldn't let me get a word in. My friend tried to speak and the woman stuck her finger in my friend's face and said, "You shut up now." I don't know how much we ended up paying her but it was more to keep her from pulling a gun out on us than fair trade. If anything these people should be reported to the better business bureau. Which I guess, is where I am headed next.
- Pros: close to DGA
- Cons: wicked witch of a woman with no respect for customers
SERVICE=GARBAGE, food is mediocre
by kate678
I dined in at Hunan last week. The service was average, as was the food. I had beef w/broccoli and the beef was of a poor quality- stringy and fatty. I will say that the vegetables were fresh.
Today, I called to place an order for takeout for lunch. I ordered & they said it would be $17.50 (for lunch!!). I questioned the price and the woman handed the phone to 'Regina,' the supposed owner. She got on the phone. Right away I apologized for the confution, but she started yelling at me!... saying they don't place lunch orders there (it was 2pm on a Tuesday and they have lunch specials on the menu), that she wouldn't serve me, to go elsewhere and never call or come again. Then she hung up.
Done and done. I won't ever go there and will be quick to deny it's quality and service. What a miserable woman. Two thumbs down.
- Pros: Example: best croissants in town
- Cons: owner is rude, ruins dining experience
WORST DELIVERY EVER!
by annie789
We had to wait over an hour for our delivery to show up, we only ordered 2 things and one of them did not show up. We called back and were told "too bad, and never order from us again." OK, we wont.
The Chinese Food Na z i and Her Food
by vitalusty
I work nearby to Hunan's and several of us routinely go for lunch. The portions are huge, spicy means SPICY and she understands what vegetarian means and cares to insure your food is vegetarian. We do call Regina the 'Chinese Food Na z i', fondly, because you do have to earn her respect. I know, I know . . . you are a paying customer, why should you have to earn anyone's respect? Because she cares about her food, she is a local business owner, and you feel a great sense of reward when she finally smiles at you. Its good, try it. It's a nice change from the Sunset Blvd. B.S.
- Pros: Authentic, good food, caring service, large portions, spicy when intended
- Cons: sticky table
