okay – So sad that many people were having bad experiences with service! I hate to say it, but most indian restaurants I go to seem to have a stuck up waiting staff. I don't know why that is. The service wasn't too bad. The staff was attentive and refilled our water when needed. But I did find a eyelash in my rice. GROSS. I don't know why it is, and hate generalizing, but I do find trouble with hygene sanitary conditions when dealing with the indian culture as well. I love indian food and all cultures, but I feel safer cooking indian food at home just to be on the safe side:( sad. some rest. need order and with indian experiences that Ive had I would feel safer eating at an Indian chain if they had one. And no I don't mean flavor of Indian that's not a chain. I mean a big corporate put you in order follow sanitary guideline chain
Dear Guest, I regret to hear of your experience. Hope you will give us a try again and find a great difference in our service. Thanks.
Bad bad rude gross but they have parking! – Bad service, bad policy on no sharing of the menu items, overcharged for rice and naan THEN as I'm slurping down the last of my mango lasse I find a bug leg floating around inside with joints carpals and all!!!!!!!! Vomit
Worst. Service. Ever. – It pains me to say this because I have loved Gate of India's food for years, but it cannot be denied: the service here is the worst service I have ever had dining in Los Angeles. I recently brought several friends here for lunch and our waiter barely acknowledged our presence. We had to ask multiple time for silverware when our salad course arrived, which he finally brought out to us...two sets at a time. Is it really so hard to carry four sets of silverware in one trip? After the salad course our forks were taken away, and we had to ask several times for new ones...which NEVER came. We finally lifted them off of other tables. Our drink refill requests went almost completely ignored, and our bill NEVER came...though another employee (not our waiter) leapt to the register to ring us up when he saw us heading to the door. I'm normally a generous tipper, but after the atrocious service we had it was a struggle to leave a mere 8% tip...which was, upon reflection, too much. The restaurant grade here has gone from B to A and is now back to B, so who the heck knows what is going on with this restaurant. My sincere advice: call in your order TO GO and take it home to enjoy. You'll get all the pleasures of their delicious cuisine without having to endure, much less tip, the worst waiters in L.A.
Dear Guest, Hope you will try us again for dine-in and have a positive experience with the wait staff. We appreciate your continued patronage. Thanks
Very Nice Owner – We arrived close to closing time and they stayed open late for us which was very nice of the owner. The chicken coconut curry was amazing!
SLOW service, RUDE Waiter – My fiance and I decided to try this place for lunch today. We arrived at 2:30 just in time for the lunch special. We were greeted by a grumpy host who took us to a booth without place settings. He never brought them - we had to walk over and ask when our salads came. There were only 3 diners in the restaurant at the time, so it was not busy. The couple behind us ordered about 5 minutes before we did, and they ordered the exact same thing as us: Chicken Korma and Chicken Tikki Masala. The difference is, they got their entrees in about 15 minutes, and we waited 55 minutes. We were just about to walk out when rude Indian waiter brought our food. The galling thing was, we watched him serve entrees to two different couples who had come in 30 minutes after us. After we had been waiting for 20 minutes, I asked if I could change my order to white meat. Rude Indian Waiter gave me a dirty look and said, "It's too late." Then we waited another 35 minutes. He never came to check on us, to tell us what was taking so long, or anything. When it FINALLY arrived, the food itself was good, except I detest dark meat, so I just ate rice, naan and Korma sauce. My fiance and I both noticed Rude Indian Waiter's demeanor change as it was time to get the check and box the food. He suddenly became kinder and more efficient. Needless to say, I won't be back. There are other places in LA with great Indian food that treat customers better.
great place – I have been a regular at Gate of India ever since I moved to Hollywood 4 years ago. This is my goto place for heartwarming Indian food. My usual Chicken Sag and Peshwari Naan.
Great price, amazing food, lots of vegetarian options, HUGE portions. – My friends ordered from this place for take-out one night, and I made the mistake of not ordering anything for myself! The food was so delicious I ended up mooching off of everyone else's plates. I finally had the chance to try it again tonight, and the food is even better than I remember. The menu is huge, including a great selection for vegetarians. There was so much to choose from so I just played it safe and ordered vegetable masala, samosas, and garlic naan. Everything was amazing, down to the sauces and rice served on the side. The owner gave me my order and he was very friendly. The restaurant is deceptively nice inside considering it's location (inside a strip mall). I can't wait to go back to try some of the other menu items. Highly recommended!

We loved it – We were recommended this place by friends. Being from NY, we love Indian food and we really enjoyed it. Got basic stuff, samosas, Chicken Tikka Masala, Paneer Korma. Nice flavor . Tried other joints in the neighborhood, this was definitely the best. We will recommend it to others.
what a joke, forget the reviews – Was craving good (at least good) indian food and as "best of 2008", how can we go wrong? Drove one and half hours just to get there, waisted soo much time in traffic. So, we had to take out instead of eating in (long drive back). Got home, opened the boxes and realized that for $53 we got old wormed up left overs from lunch or probably that lunch buffet ($6.99!!). For $53 they did not bother to cook our food fresh! Hard overcooked meats that we could't swallow, dry shriveled up okra, chewy gummy breads, flavorless spinach and so on. We are not hard critics, eat pretty much all kinds of foods and love it, but this time... our worst of 2008. Economy in this bad shape, they are not going to have a customers for long (may be food was bad for take outs only) Who would want to pay full price for leftovers? Shame, shame. Highly UNrecommended.
