Toi On Sunset Rockin Thai Food
September 30, 2012

Late night (or early morning) Thai food for musicians and fans wanting to enjoy their satay and pad Thais amidst rock music and art work.

all about the brown rice!. this is a good alternative to fast food late night. i wouldn't make it a destination -- there are much better and more authentic thai restaurants in town. but if you're out late seeing a band or whatever and in the 'hood, then go for it. love the rock and roll vibe. and the brown rice is the best part. i'd stick with your typical stuff here, pad thai, tom kha, etc.

they don't deliver food at night. Called at 3:20 am because I googled food delivery. It says free delivery when you search it. The person on the phone told me that they are closed (but the website says they're open til 4 am) and they don't deliver. Confusing

We saw RATS. Food is only good when drunk. Had leftovers the next day and could not even finish them because it tasted so bad. We ordered yellow chicken curry and pad thai. Seriously gross. My friend Justin saw a big rat in the restaraunt and the waiter gave us our meal for free. DISGUSTING. Would never go back.

Mighty Tastey!. Just had the Cashew Chicken with brown rice. It was take out so I can not say much about the service or atmosphere, but the food was mighty tastey.

Great theme, no substance. I visited Toi recently, and my first impression was - "ok.. they have a rock/Hollywood theme. cool. Oh look! They even have a bouncer! er, I mean 'host'"

After that, it was VERY lackluster. You can get better Thai food anywhere else in L.A. with better service than this place, and will probably cost you less money.

As for service - forget it. Unless you ordered too many plates and they have to clear room for more food, you can forget about them busing your table until the end of the meal. (My visit was during the week, and the restaurant was half empty.)

Also, the fact that I can see the servers smoke outside, come back in, then continue to wait on tables without washing their hands? GROSS!

With this going on, I don't know if anyone was even managing this place!

So, unless it's my friend's birthday and they intensely insist on going there, I will NEVER suggest this place to anyone I know.

a birthday celebration RUINED. TOI was one of my favorite restuarants. I ordered from them for delivery for years and have been to the actual restaurant countless times. However, last night changed all of that. Having attended a b-day dinner, all was great. However, as we left, things took a sudden change. Once outside, out waiter comes out and asked us to sign an additional receipt. I did so no questions asked. He thanked us and went back inside, at which the cashier came out and then accused us of not paying the full bill. Confusion arose. We had paid the bill with two cards. I have the receipts for BOTH transactions. I showed these to her, she apologized and went inside. My friends and I chatted a bit before crossing the street-- at which time it dawned on me that I was given receipts and fortune cookies, but NO DEBIT CARD. I went inside to question this. The employees became very rude, accusing us of not giving them a card, etc. Again I showed them both receipts... questioned where my card was. They claimed I didnt supply them a card-- then said they ran the card and returned it... then said they didnt know where the card was... started using foul language and told us to leave. I immedietly called my bank-- which verified I was charged not once, but TWICE within 4 minutes of each other. I called the restuarant with all authorization numbers, transaction details, etc. The girl I spoke to on the phone was very rude, told me to "shut the F up!", called me a liar, and hung up. I contacted my legal rep. who called to speak to a manager. She was told the manager would only be on duty for one hour the following day... Today, I called to speak to a manager, was told he was not available... I have reported to beter business bureau, Wells Fargo, etc. Very upset. Businesses should not be ran in such manner... I am sad to say they have lost my business forever...

Great food and atmosphere!. I tried this place for the first time last night and it was delicious. The service was good and the prices were right. We were seated immediately and the food came out fairly quickly. The only thing I didn't like was that you have to pay extra for rice.

Great food and killer atmosphere!. Toi is a great spot on Sunset for Thai food. They're open really late at night as well wich makes Toi a great alternative to all the fast food thats open late night.

Interior is a walk down memory lane when it comes to rock 'n roll.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Horrified. I am a member of an acting group in the area and we frequent this place, bring them a lot of business. The food is okay (I PREFER SUNSET THAI) but it was convenient since it is open very late. A fellow actor (who is also in the play we are opening in May) went in to get a Chai tea to go. Not only did they refuse to serve her, they kicked her out. This gentle woman has cerebral palsy (she has a slight speech impediment) and in NO WAY resembles a homeless crackie. A few of us returned to the restaurant to give them the opportunity to apologize for this error and they were VERY RUDE and pointed to the sign that says "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone", however, that does not mean that they can refuse service based on race, gender or disability.

She has such a huge heart she would have been satisfied with an apology. Not only did they not apologize, they were horribly rude. This behavior is totally unacceptable and horrifying. If they could not distinguish between a physically disabled, nicely dressed woman carrying a book bag and a homeless crackhead then THEY are the ones with the disability. SHAME SHAME SHAME

Late Night Thai Cravings. My friends and I love to stop at this place after a night out and I always love the food here! Good size portions to share, good thai food, and the servers are always so sweet to us. Parking can be hard, but late at night there's usually a meter open nearby. If you're in the mood for a quiet dinner though, skip it. It can get kinda loud.

Walk in to say you've seen it and move on...... Ok, I was always told that TOI was THE place for Thai in hollywood, but after going there multiple times I realized that all that old novel bull$&i! on the walls just didn't add up and I don't even think they cleaned the place let alone the kitchen.

I believe there method of preparing food goes as follows.... Vendor delivers food to TOI they cook as much as they can and disperse over the course of a few days, and then repeat the process. I say this b/c anytime I order the curry or soup it seems soooo watery and flavorless that I have to add their hot sauce which I am convinced got me sick!!!! Leading me to believe the stuff has been sitting around, and I only get sick if food is left out for long durations.

Service is sub par everyone seems to be in the worst mood, as if their hog (Rough Guys Motorcycle ie chopper) broke down on them, very unatentive and you may be waiting a while for the check....???? Do they want to make tips or are they worried I ll leave them less than nothing..... I have no shame when it comes to bad service toppled with bad food.

Plus there's a doorman at night???? (What is this some lame Hollywood club!!!!!) who has no idea what is going on, talk about a sheep walker... Even if absolutely dead he will ask you to wait while he checks for availability like he can't remember if there is nobody in the place.

The value of the place is not bad considering the portions, if you can even stand it. The alcohol is rather expensive but perhaps typical for the area.....???

Even their ice is horrible, but come on.... the place uses a snowcone machine the owner ripped out of coney island. DO NOT GET THE THIA ICED TEA YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!!

The bathrooms are borderline inexcusable regardless of their theme. I think if Motley Crew G&R and Snake of Eden had a threesome and had a litter of A$$ babies it would look like TOI's mens room!

Do yourself a favor unless you are any of the bands above and go to SUNSETTHAI.
