Editorial Review for Golden Apple Comics – by Kim Cooper
In Short
Melrose Avenue might look pretty hip to your average tourist, but there's one wonderfully geeky spot that helps balance the scales. For more than two decades, Golden Apple has provided comics nerds with all their cultural needs, while giving them a place to develop their social skills. This family-run shop, with its friendly, fannish staff, is a great place to browse in the company of fellow obsessives.

Insider Tips
The ExtraIf you're hoping to have a leisurely comic-shopping visit, steer clear of Golden Apple on those days when they're hosting celebrity guests--especially B-movie actresses with big, um, fan clubs.
Know Before You GoParents, watch your kids closely: The adults-only annex, located behind a pair of swinging doors between the cash registers and the underground comix section, is a tempting destination for curious tykes.
Look GoodDo check out the pre-painted model kits, some of which are pretty nutty.

This store treats you like a sap and charges you more than other comic shops. Parking is hard and its just gotten worse over the years. Run by some weird family that works in-store due to not enough employees
Pros: look
Cons: Price, Service, Parking

I'm new to comics, having just started reading them last month. I've been trying out all the comic book shops in LA, and though they all have their strong points, Golden Apple is my favorite. Aside from a great selection, the new releases are better organized than in any other store I've seen in LA, they have a very good selection of graphic novels and trades (though these could be a bit better organized), a solid selection of back issues, and what looks like a wide range of choice in toys (not being a toy guy, don't take my word for this). It also doesn't have the intimidating atmosphere for a rookie that some other shops have. I think Golden Apple is now "My Comic Book Shop."
