Editorial Review for Chateau Marmont – by Ginny Chien
The Scene
No other hotel has played a more central role in Hollywood mythology. "If you must get in trouble, do it at the Chateau Marmont," said original Columbia Pictures head Harry Cohn. (The infamous quote was directed at William Holden and Glenn Ford in 1939.) A sampling from the scores of legendary scandals: Jean Harlow and Clark Gable trysted here, Jim Morrison, high as a kite, leapt from a balcony, and John Belushi overdosed in one of the bungalows.
The Details
Situated atop a hill and hidden by thick foliage, Marmont's lure is the feeling of seclusion, which is why everyone from Bogart to DeNiro has taken up residence. The French countryside-like castle mixes design elements from various periods--gothic arches, mid-century George Nelson lamps, art deco seating--for a highly eclectic vibe. Hotelier Andre Balazs' renovation during the early '90s removed a layer of shabbiness and restored the original bohemian veneer.

WOW! what an amazing place. We were given the biggest room on the first floor. You literally just walked from dinner to your room. Felt like we had a secret entrance to the castle that no one knew about and the room was HUGE with views so you could see who else was staying there. The hotel service was to die for from personal directions for walking the hills from Benedict to wine suggestions from Elizabeth. The pool was a blast and even Clare Danes sunbathed right down from us. Unbelievable the amount of star power we saw from the new arrivals from England to Christopher LLoyd himself. If you only do it once, you should do it right at the Chateau you must stay at least two days so you can have breakfast and dinner in the garden and drinks in the lobby. Just sit back and enjoy yourself. Guests are treated like royalty!
Pros: Takes the second time of trying to feel like you can manuever the drive way
