great hair cut, great classic haircut, love place, great many people, good stylist, great experience, great price

Modern barbershop services both men and women. They also do coloring and relaxing, too. It's hip, but not pretentious. You can make an appointment, drop in or just call in on your way over.
R U Cut??. Earl is the best men's cutter there is...hes worth traveling for and Shorty's is a great shop with a cool atmosphere. The whole crew at shorty's is fun and it is a circus worth watching...great people. Enjoy.
Worth travelling for!!!!!. I always get Earl to cut my hair and make me look human again every time I am in town. He has an amazing ability to know what I want without me telling him! Definitely a miracle worker and definitely worth flying to LA for. I recommend him to anyone who needs a great cut and general manscape! The store is also a barrel of laughs, never a dull moment.

I love what I do, so come on in and let me do your hair! See you soon. Miles
Bad butcher job by inexperienced barber. My fiance needed to get a haircut. He has curly hair, so it requires skills to cut his hair. I found Shorty's to have good review on citysearch, so I told him about it. I called ahead to put his name on the list and told the person on the phone that we needed someone who was good with cutting curly hair for men. When we got there, they gave him Maria, who is a really sweet 23-year-old girl, but completely inexperienced. She did not do whatever he instructed her to do like not cutting too much off on top. She made his hair uneven around the crown. The haircut was $23, and out of pity for a young girl, my fiance still gave her $5 in tip, so she probably had no idea he hated his haircut. When we got back to the car, I asked him how he liked the cut, and he said he was angry that he got a hatchet job. He said he cringed every time she started to cut his hair as he could see she was taking out too much. If you want to insist on trying Shorty's, you should ask for an experienced barber. Avoid Maria or any other like her like the plague. I have nothing against Maria, and like I said before, she was very pleasant and sweet. However, who wants to get a bad haircut in exchange of having some small talk with a sweet girl? Not me! I will never try Shorty's since I don't want to get a butcher job. It might not be fair for the rest of the barbers there, but when you don't know who to pick, and you can't make an appointment, then you're at Shorty's mercy. They might give you someone who is really bad, and then your hair pays the price. Men's hair is not as bad since men have to get a cut every 3 weeks anyway, but for women's hair, a bad butcher cut will result in 3 months of bad hair days. Yikes! By the way, so many people recommended Travis on here, but I found out that if you want to have Travis cut your hair, it will cost $100. For him, you can make an appointment.
Won't take my hair anywhere else..
I've had one short experience at shorty's but well worth my time is an understatement. i signed up with citysearch for one reason and one reason only; to praise the stylings of one Mr. Travis. I walked in with hair that remained untouched by professional hands for about a year. The choice wasn't made out of desperation, rather a string of bad hair-cuts. I came in off a referral from someone who has had their hair colored and cut by Travis for years, and her hair color is the best I've seen. Natural to a T and completely complimentary.
Travis did an AMAZING job. He made me feel s-x-y again. I walked out of Shorty's with my hair bouncing, one of my personal reviewers even said I looked like my hair came straight out of a pantene commercial, and I felt like it. I've been a one take wonder so far, but I can't wait to go back. I put my full trust in him, as I had little direction to offer, and he made my hair work for me, in ways I didn't know my hair could. I won't go to anyone else. He's FANTASTIC. Travis. And he's fun. He can dish like the best of 'em and the ambiance made someone like me, walking into a new salon feel safe and at home.
Choose your stylist wisely, recommendation enclosed.
I recently read a bad review of Shorty's (among the many good ones). And I must say I've had both good and neutral experiences -- all depending on the stylist you get.
I too have specific things I want for my hair, and often people (anywhere) don't seem to pay attention or be capable of reading your mind and tailoring to what you need.
But, there is a solution: Kristie Herndon (five stars for her, four for shorty's). It's funny how if you read reviews of Shorty's her name pops up the most... it's because she truly is more thorough, more skilled, and more caring about what you actually want/need than everyone else is. She is especially excellent working with custom needs - receding hairlines to work around etc.
But please remember to tip well (I always tip 20), she often spends extra time to make sure you get an excellent haircut... which means she misses out on a lot of other customers she could have chopped through quickly to make more tips.
5 stars? I don't think so--one's more like it..
Wow--where have all those 5 stars come from? Tried this place because my regular guy seem to be slacking off a little--now I'm going back to him. Went to Shorty's based on this site and took my passport
photo--the cut was nothing like it and took 4 weeks to grow back so I could get a decent haircut. Maybe I
just got the worst cutter there, but I won't take the chance again.
Miles cut my hair and he was great!. There's rarely much of a wait and it's just a cool, chill scene without any attitude. Sort of rocker and comfortable. Miles gave me a good cut-- very attentive to detail.
Fairfax-area barber provides affordable trims and cutting-edge style in a laidback yet rockin' atmosphere.. With its retro sign and candy stripe barber pole, this barbershop might look like an all-American throwback to the '50s, but step inside and it becomes obvious that this chop shop is far more than just a stroll down nostalgia lane. Reimagining the traditional barbershop from a simple all-boys club to a rock-and-roll unisex experience, the energetic, poster-plastered space is where stylists do everything from basic cuts and coloring to relaxing and other "fancier" treatments. As the salon's motto says: "Save the drama for your mama--come to Shorty's for the low drama/high style experience."
SEE ASHLEY!. I saw a stylist named Ashley yesterday and she was amazing! The place is fantastic, chill and unpretentious and quite a bargain. I asked for a clean cut, conservative, but not too conservative (I work in a rather conservative environment) and voila! I love it! Slightly edgy, but still classic in shape. It's a no nonsense salon. I love that. I've been looking for a good stylist in LA that wouldn't rival my monthly grocery bill and I believe I found it. Ashley is professional, welcoming, thoughtful in her work and just talented. She's got quite an eye. If you're looking for a good haircut, I believe this is the place. I couldn't care less for the uppity atmosphere at various places in Beverly Hills. See Ashley! She's so chill.
