Noodle slurping is perfectly acceptable inside this sleek, modern dining room. Entrees like swordfish and salmon pair up with traditional Japanese sides--boiled spinach, sweet-potato puree, sweet marinated seaweed and sesame green beans. Make a meal of the noodle dishes, offered hot, cold, thick, thin and curried. Nabeyaki udon's fish broth overflows with spinach, shiitake mushrooms, chicken, egg, fishcake and shrimp tempura, while zaru thin noodles are served cold with dipping sauce.

Mishima is a good place to go if you're in the mood for a healthy salad, some cold soba noodles, a big bowl of udon, tempura, or a nice hot cup of green tea. There are heavier items on the menu as well as bento boxes, but you can make it light if you look. I generally go on my own and take a good book for a quick bite in a nice environment. It's a good place if you're looking for cheap, non-sushi Japanese food.

Mishima has great food with reasonable prices. My favorite dish there is the tofu salad. They use their own salad dressing (I think it was Miso dressing) and it tastes awesome. If you are a vegetarian, this is great to order. They also have a lot of combos so, you can get noodles with rolls, or rice entree with noodles. The combos are smaller than ordering the dishes individually, but they are still filling. It's great to get if you can't choose what to order. There are also kids' meals. The rolls are all very great as well. During busy times, it is a bit hard to get a hold of the server. The parking is the worst. It is sometimes hard to find parking or enter into the plaza.

My wife, 2 year old, and I went here Saturday night. We followed other reviewers' advice and parked at the Beverly Center, which was a great tip (thank you). After eating, go back into the Beverly Center to check out the pet store for some free kiddie entertainment. Anyways, we did have to wait a while (15 minutes at least) to get a table, which can be a challenge with children. However, Mishima keeps a stock of Japanese nursery tale children's books in the waiting area, which kept us happily occupied. When we were seated, we got a table along the back wall, which was nice, because there was a long booth-style bench rather than solely chairs. This is always better for children because they can kind of move and climb around (the trick is to box them in between you and a wall). There are some complete kid meals that come in these cute concentric containers, which children might find fun/adventurous. The food was decent and reasonably priced, especially considering the neighborhood. As an added bonus of sorts, we sat next to a well-known actress and her hubby and two children. Overall, I could definitely see this place becoming part of our regular dinner rotation. My only gripe/concern was having to wait (which I hate). Hopefully, by getting there a little earlier (I think we dined at 7:30pm), we'll beat the crowd next time.
