great cozy neighborhood bar, good music, good whiskey, friendly bartenders, good drink, great crowd, wonderful heavy
Young crowds looking for low-key fun cozy up to this quintessential neighborhood bar..
The Scene
The place exudes the jolly ambience of a dark British pub; there are also small booths and tables along the perimeter of the room. Most people stake their claim near the bar. Patrons and performers from the Coronet Theatre next door often make appearances, as do exotic dancers from the strip club across the street. This is, however, primarily a watering hole for folks who live nearby.
The Draw
The camaraderie among customers is clear, so much so that "Cheers" cliches come to mind, but even newcomers are happily welcomed into the fold. Mix CDs dominate the sound system, and regulars contribute their own selections--expect to hear anything from the Violent Femmes to Cream. Things don't really get rolling until after 11pm, but drinks flow through closing time. The bartender will even serve a shot at 1:59am, provided it's gone by 2am.
great cozy neighborhood bar. wonderful heavy pours by friendly bartenders that will remember your name. can be a bit loud at times but thats only because of the awesome music that they play. great crowd that loves to party and meet new ppl. definitely recommend.
Not a 10. I went to this place based on the reviews (all 10s) and was sort of shocked once I was there that people were raving about this place. It's tiny, dark, dank and dirty. Although the music was good, the beer selection was sad and overpriced, the service was indifferent and the crowd was non-descript. I just don't understand how this place has such high ratings.
Highly underrated. Just south of the silicon implanted, beemer cruising LA bridge and tunnel crowd, you will find the Coronet Pub. It's an ugly little place that defines "American bar." They have the fruity martinis, if you want them, but they know the appeal of a good whiskey. The drinks are generous and bartenders knowledgable and entertaining. The crowd runs the spectrum of A-list celebrities to local accountants, but no one really cares. Pretense is ignored at the least, ridiculed at the most. This place is not only defined by its rustic charm, but by the regulars who populate the joint. You would rarely draw a crowd this diverse anywhere, it's something to see and be appreciated. You'll want to plant yourself for the evening and watch the events unfold.
DOUBLE VISION AFTER 2 DRINKS. I love this place!! They have strong drinks for a small price. You can watch sports on tv but you may not hear it once the party gets going!! And the bartenders are really cute!!!!
Good God this is a great bar.. There is no finer bar in the world, let alone West Hollywood. And if you haven't sat in the third stool from the right, you have no idea what you're missing.
a place where they know your name. my favorite hole. good drink, good friends, what more is there to want.
Reality Check. Once you've been in LA long enough to actually be offended by double-digit martinis and condescending valets, this is the place to go for a reality check. The Coronet is the antithesis of LA - in every positive way. The bartenders really do remember your drink preference and gasp, your name. The drinks are industrial sized at bargain basement prices. Go Th-Sun when Todd or Z is working and order up a round of "17 days in a crackhouse" - their specialty. One of those and you'll be hanging with the regulars in no time. Plus the music is befitting of a pub as is the casual environment.
