In Short – At the same location since 1947, this stalwart Jewish deli is now the anchor tenant in a neighborhood that's more shabby, less chic. Open only till 4pm daily, the clientele is usually a mix of power-lunching downtown execs and old-timers revisiting the neighborhood for a nostalgic infusion of cholesterol. Langer's pastrami sandwiches have achieved almost mythic proportions. Swaddled between two slices of seeded rye bread, the thickly sliced, hand-cut pastrami is spicy and smoky. With nearly a dozen variations on the artery-clogging creation, it's necessary to order by numbers.…

Editor's Tips

Parking:
There's a parking lot at the northeast corner of 7th Street and Westlake, one block east of the restaurant. Parking is free for one hour with validation. Make sure you get a ticket from the lot attendant and have it stamped by a Langer's cashier.
The Extras:
If you call ahead, your order will be delivered to your car curbside. And if you can't make it to the restaurant at all, there is Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday overnight delivery via FedEx.

  1. For pastrami on rye, there is nothing that even compares Al Langer's pastrami, but don't forget to add some incredible soup (my favorite is cabbage) and a delicious shake or egg cream.

try the #19. We find it so fun when we are in the area. Only open in daytime makes it harder to get there when Langers is open.

Really Good Pastrami

by pburstyn

Meat? Good, pastrami? Good! Not the BEST deli I ever ate at, but you know what? In a pinch this place is just fine. By the way... stuffed cabbage is not bad at all. I agree with some that if you do the curbside pick up CHECK YOUR ORDER, but then again, what boob doesn't? If you don't you deserve it, don't you? Anyhow, lika da Langers, but yes, there are others that rock just as much if not more. Yelp should organize a pastrami sandwich off so we can all decide, no? Am I asking too many questions? Bon Apetite

Overpriced...Way overpriced!

by vikkhart

The food was OK...In my and my husband's opinion, not great! Way overpriced for what you get. Its a California landmark and famous...but for us...once was enough.

Pricey but Excellent

by thecollinsissue

The claim to fame of these delicious sandwiches is the driving point about the price, I think (which is inflated a bit), however it is a wonderful experience to sink ones teeth into one of these. Great for work lunch orders.
