Awesome Food. Our food came out on time and was prepared just right. I would recommend this place to a hungry person the portions are huge! Service as ok but the food made up for it! I
Editorial Review. USC hangout dishes up omelets and scrambles for breakfast, as well as a variety of salads, sandwiches, burgers and steak.
Casual Cafe near USC. One of the few sitdown restaurants/cafes near the USC campus. While the general atmosphere is pleasant and they offer patio seating, it can get crowded on evenings and weekends. Everything I've tried at the 2-9 has been tasty but the menu is a little overpriced for what you get (wraps, burgers, salads).
Unique to the area. I go to USC and appreciate this spot as a place to take parents or get a nice, sit-down lunch. It is, however, capitalizing on its monopoly as the the ONLY restaurant around to do so, and is therefore overpriced with poor food and even poorer service. Its always crowded with college kids, the food is always lack luster (especially the salads) and the bill is always higher than you intended it to be. If youve got a car - drive to downtown or La Brea and get some better food at better prices, its worth the inconvenience.
Good stop for college students. This place makes me, as a USC student, feel like I'm actually living in a real college town. Built on the ground floor of an old mansion-like house, the food is delicious and the bar has a healthy selection of beer on tap.
Still a nice bar. We've been at Cafe 29 a couple of times since November 2005. I don't know what it was like before, but I like it there. Maybe because I am not a student anymore? The food is good, prices are decent, a number of good beers are on tap -- it's just what you expect from your friendly neighbourhood bar. It's nothing fancy, but I nice place to go and grab a bite. The patio is great. Service is friendly.
Used to be cool.... This used to be the best hangout for USC kids, but when the bar was bought by a new owner last year, it lost all appeal. That owner tore out the bar and replaced tasty appetizers with a stuffy menu. Once the crowded hangout of the beautiful SC crowd, they now must scramble to attract patrons with (really, really awful) open mic poetry nights. Avoid this one, and pray that someone else opens a bar near USC.
