Wedged in a strip mall between USC and downtown, arguably one of the city's best Mexican eateries dishes out tasty burritos--especially noteworthy are the pork and potato--in addition to other traditional delights. Thirsty diners may choose from a wide variety of fresh juices.

- There is a lot, but note that it can be a little dodgy at night.

My friend just introduced me to this place and I can't believe I have lived in LA my entire life and hadn't been there before. It's somewhat of a guys kind of place, tons of USC bros (not that thats a bad thing). I ordered one of my mulitas vegetarian style witch was with potatoes. SO SO good! I will definitely be back! Thank you Julian for the introduction!
- Pros: cheap
- Cons: no cons
Greatest food ever!

Jonathan Gold (the Pulitzer Prize-winning food critic for the L.A. Weekly) lists this place in his book of his favorite restaurants in L.A. He is very correct--this place is the bomb. Try their fresh-squeezed juices or trademark mulitas.
Though, note that they are open until 11pm on Sat and Sun (not 12pm as listed here).
- Pros: Fresh, quality ingredients; low prices; great variety
- Cons: parking can be a drag
Don't know what a mulita is, but LOVE the sopes

La Taquiza, casa de las mulitas, IS authentic Mexican food. Wedged between a convenient store and a nail salon, La Taquiza is the south of the border craving oasis. Restaurant offers commonplace Mexican fare such as quesadillas and burritos. I can't get enough of the sopes. Although guacamole is available, it's best obtained elsewhere. Avoid going during lunch hour as the wait is unbearable. Prices great! Must go to.
- Pros: Sopes!
- Cons: Parking, crowds
House of the Mulitas

Nestled into an unassuming strip mall, La Taquiza serves up some of the tastiest Mexican food I've had in LA. There's a full line of fresh juices that can be served alone or with milk (try the strawberry) along with the usual horchata. Opt for the potato burrito or the restaurant's speciality: the mulita, similar to a quesidilla but smaller and stuffed full of your choice of beef, chicken, or pork. The meat here really shines, especially the pork that has been slow cooked on a rotating-spit. There's also a large salsa bar with toppings like onions and radishes so you can top your tacos any way you like.
- Pros: Good for large groups, Parking lot, Quick Service, Large Portions
- Cons: Can get crowded at lunchtime and on Friday nights
best mexican food near USC

Why do people go to Chanos when they can go to La Taquiza which is waaaaaaay better. I love how they have that little bar with all the jalapenos, carrots, radish, salsa etc. so that the customers can get as much as they wish. The food here is never disappointing.... And the tortillas are made on the spot so they are always nice and warm, and tastes so fresh. LOVE IT.
- Pros: la comida Mexicana
- Cons: none
