CLOSED DOWN. It's not even open anymore! There's a sign on the door saying that it's been closed down due to an "infestation" - yikes! Save yourself the trip!

Not impressed. If you've ever had REAL Chinese food, or like me, have grown up in Asia surrounded by delicious Chinese cuisine, from expensive restaurants to dirt cheap hawker stalls, you will not be impressed by this Cantonese chain. Though it makes it's best effort to provide a HUGE selection on the menu and offer fresh seafood, the portions are so large that they are unappetizing, and the cuts of meat a little on the fatty side. This place obviously caters to the less experienced tongue, who is used to bastardized Chinese food. And even so, that would be fine, had it not given my family members a case of the stomach aches.

Great food, great service, diverse menu. I read the previous reviews raving about the food and indicating that the service was rude and took too long. I was hesistent to go because of the extremity of complaints on service. However, I think the restaurant got the message because the service was attentive and quite quick (though some delay in getting the check). I was very impressed with the menu offerings. Having longed for authentic Chinese dining in Southern California, I'm glad to have found this place. I have recommended it to others and am looking forward to going back.

GREAT FOOD, VERY RUDE SERVICE. This place would easily get an 8 or 9 from me if the service wasn't so bad. I love their food, it's delicious, but every time you go there you are ignored by the waiters and/or treated like dirt. The entire restaurant behaves as if you are lucky they will consent to serve you at all. The bus boys are much more helpful and cheerful than the wait staff. The waits for order-taking and arrival of food are much longer than they should be, and if you ask your waiter what happened to your food/what's taking so long, they react like 'what the hell's your problem?' They are so packed all the time that they literally do not care if they lose customers. They probably *want* to lose a few, to free up a few spaces in the parking lot. I will continue to get their food, TO GO, but I refuse to subject myself to their nasty service again eating in the restaurant.

UPDATE: Hop Li now has another restaurant on Santa Monica Blvd. in Santa Monica. It's bright and cheerful, the service is quite prompt and the staff quite different than the one on Pico. I highly recommend going to the Santa Monica Hop Li instead of the one on Pico.

We had a good experience. Our birthday celebration was very good. I had pre-ordered all the food for our large party days before and made the arrangements to have our party sit in the back of the restaurant at one of the large tables with the lazy susans. When we signeled that we were ready to begin our dinner, they promptly starting bringing out all our dishes. The owner also waived the corkage fee for our party which saved us a bit of money. All my guests thought the food was very good and we would defintely go back, especially for another large party.

Not a memorable dinning experience.... Run of the mill Chinese food, combined with mediocre service and below average ambience makes a not memorable dinning experience. The food is not bad but is not good either. Don?t expect the taste from downtown or Monterey Park. The service was prompt but rude. The place is dim and has a lot of smoke. Go there for everyday eating but even at that you can do better for the same price.

The worst in west LA. We went there because of a good rating but we were very disappointed by both poor services and bad quality of food.

Good food, indifferent service. Our visit to Hop Li was spoiled by the indifferent service. We arrived between lunch and dinner, but the restaurant was still taking customers. Our waiter did not seem to know that there were specials posted near the entrance. He took our order and disappeared for a long while. It took forever to get water. Our meals were not served together, so I waited about ten minutes while the other two people ate. We learned that we had to call him, waving, to get his attention. He was pretty sullen.

We ordered the orange crispy duck, fried rice, egg rolls, and spicy chicken. All were prepared perfectly. In the future, we will order take-out since this will provide us with the great food, minus the interaction with Hop Li's employees.

good chinese. this place is good for solid hong kong style chinese food, not a lot of fried, gloppy sweet & sour sauce like some chinese food places. I like the stir fried noodles with seafood.

Excellent Chinese. I love this place! I've been here a few times for dinner but mostly for lunch. You have to pay for parking so just park on one of the metered side streets. Lunchtimes can get very crowded and I've had to wait 30 minutes or more. Their lunch specials are decent if not a bit overpriced, but their dinners are their specialty. The braised duck is excellent, as are their hot-and-sour and wonton soups, as well as their orange chicken and kung pao.
