What People Are Saying About Don Antonio's

In Short – This traditional Mexican restaurant is a dark, cavernous hideaway. The low-ceilinged rooms and full bar are brightened with rustic knickknacks, string lights and a tropical aquarium, while the more romantic, ivy-covered garden patio paradise in back flickers with candlelight. From spacious semicircular booths, Westsiders, dates and families savor the intimate setting and standard Mexican fare. Burritos, fajitas, fried tacos and more are available, and can be accompanied by strawberry margaritas. –

ambiance
100.0% positive
  1. All you need is solid dishes, a few specialties, good margies, and a nice atmosphere.
  2. The atmosphere was really cool too, NOTHING like the loud, corral feeling of el compadre, or the tacky, frat party feel of el coyote.
  3. Anyways, I have never tried their drinks at the bar or had their tacos, but the ambience is nice (a bit dark) but it's kind of romantic almost.
  4. The ambiance is great inside or on the patio.
  5. It is a HUGE step up from El Cholo, but it cant compete with the atmosphere of Lares.
  6. Nice romantic ambience, a little Gothic, with a cave like room and a big fish tank.
  7. We went with a large group and sat in the back patio - very cute, nice ambiance, althought they let people smoke out there.
  8. Indoors or outdoors is a comfortable atmosphere.
  9. romantic and cheap big aquarium dark red seating zkdksid iopsdipfjg nwqowop[ejldm jlkuiohkhjkbn mdasf vvv
  10. The atmosphere is lively, good for groups but also fun for a date night.
  11. The atmosphere was warm and traditional; very appealing.

drinks
80.0% positive
  1. If you don't drink (although the strawberry margaritas are a must), a couple can escape there with a full stomach for under $20.
  2. Anyways, I have never tried their drinks at the bar or had their tacos, but the ambience is nice (a bit dark) but it's kind of romantic almost.
  3. The chicken tacos are the best of the 5 flavors offered and beers are a little cheaper then too.
  4. To sum up: Go here for a good time with friends, cheap food and good drinks.
  5. Prices were very reasonable; my husband and I had two rounds of drinks and a ton of food, and still got out under fifty, tip included.

  1. Never had a bad meal.
  2. And the food is delicious.
  3. my favorite was shrimp soup, it had vegetables, marinaded sour carrots, and plenty of large shrimp.
  4. am a Santa Monica native, so Don Antonio's is not only a good choice because it's semi-close, but it's also reasonably priced and has good food!
  5. food in general was reasonable.
  6. And don't forget to order the albondiga soup.
  7. My experiences here have always been great, with the exception of one dish, which had a few chicken bones left in (I think it was a salad or something).
  8. The carne asada and the chicken tacos are the best.
  9. The chimichangas are my favorite, and the burrito especial is also good.
  10. The service was horrible, the food was cold and gross.
  11. While the food is not as good as some little abuela's, who is holed up in her kitchen making tamales and Carne Asada by hand the way her abuela used to make it, it still passes the test.
  12. If you're still standing by the time your table is ready, you have to order the potato tacos.
  13. The food here is delicious (I judge Mexican restaurants based on their tacos) and the service is so great.
  14. Their margaritas are so flavorful without being too thick, and the chicken in their burritos is moist and cooked to perfection.
  15. This restaurant is famous for the fresh food served daily.
  16. But if you're looking for great authentic mexican food, this is the place.
  17. have been going to Don Antonio's for about a yr now and have always loved there food until now.

  19. Braaaaaa Don Antonio's is the best Mexican food
  20. Nice romantic ambience, a little Gothic, with a cave like room and a big fish tank.
  21. The salsa is actually fairly good, as are the chips (a bit on the heavy and greasy side, but passable), so this place may be a nice bet for magaritas and chips after work.
  22. Anyways, I have never tried their drinks at the bar or had their tacos, but the ambience is nice (a bit dark) but it's kind of romantic almost.
  23. This used to be my favorite Mexican food place in town, but the days of an authentic hole in the wall restaurant are gone.
  24. The chicken tacos are the best of the 5 flavors offered and beers are a little cheaper then too.
  25. took a big whiff of the taco while opening foil and the smell about made the burrito come back up from my stomach.

  30. The margaritas are great, the staff is wonderful and the food is to die for.
  31. We loved everything, the chips and salsa, burritos, delicious beef tacos.
  32. When we sat, we ordered nachos that we saw pass by and looked good (from the appetizer menu), 2 crispy tacos, and my girl ordered a carne asada soft taco.
  33. Oh, and the food is great!
  34. The food isn't bad though but we really like going there for the sangrias.
  35. But I really loved that soup.
  36. Every wed you have to go here to get the best dollar tacos around.
  37. All other items have been amazing-- GREAT chips and salsa, killer margaritas and excellent burritos.
  38. Flavorful with fresh lime and decent tequila.

  44. All the tacos are superb - chicken, beef, pork, even the potato - I've tried them all and they're all delectable.
  45. It's my favorite Mexican food in LA.
  46. Every time I go, I never need to order more than 2 dishes for my boyfriend and I (and we are not light eaters).
  47. The cheese and onion enchiladas are also delicious.
  48. The food was very good, but the service was lacking.
  49. Terrific spot to have group lunches and eat some good old fashioned Mexican food.
  50. HORRIBLE service, mediocre food

  57. Amazing homemade salsa
  58. great interrior and shrip soup
  59. All you need is solid dishes, a few specialties, good margies, and a nice atmosphere.

  61. The food is tasty - I'm a particular fan of their shrimp fajitas and fish tacos.
  62. Never had a bad meal or a screwup.
  63. Prices were very reasonable; my husband and I had two rounds of drinks and a ton of food, and still got out under fifty, tip included.
  64. Amazing tacos!
  65. get the tamale/enchilada combination everytime I go for dinner, but their burritos and carne asada dishes are awesome too.
  66. Prices are great, around $10 gets one a good meal (I can never finish mine).
  67. I'd like to say the food was good but the service is horrible and never provided us the opportunity to eat.
  68. And, of course, the food is outstanding.
  69. First off they messed up on the burrito with topping it with the wrong sauce, which wasn't that big of a deal, but it was when I opened the foil to the asada soft taco is when the real problem started.
  70. The homemade chips come out hot, flaky and delicious every time -- fresh spicy hot salsa also is great.
  71. But the food doesn't live up -- a bland tamale caked in some tasteless "red" sauce, less-than-fresh Ingredients.
  72. am a big fan of mexican food and this was nothing to write home about.

IF YOU WANT DECENT MEXICAN FOOD THIS IS THE PLACE, BUT IF LIKE ME YOU WANT TO TAKE AND IMPRESS A DATE DO NOT COME HERE, I HAVE DONE IT TWICE WITH DATES I WANTED TO SHARE GOOD MEXICAN FOOD WITH, IN EACH OCCASION WE OVERHEARD THE WAITERS CURSE PROFANITIES (TO EACH OTHER) JOKINGLY IN SPANISH, I AM MEXICAN MY DATES WERE AMERICAN BUT FOUL WORDS IN SPANISH ARE VERY WELL KNOWN TO NON SPANISH SPEAKING PEOPLE, NOT VERY CLASSY NOR APPROPRIATE , THIS ARE NOT THE ONLY TIMES I HAVE BEEN TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT I HAVE EATING THERE MANY TIMES BEFORE WITH MY MALE FRIENDS SO WHEN WE HEARD THE FOUL LANGUAGE WE DID NOT REALLY CARE, BUT WHEN YOU ARE WITH A DATE , IT IS VERY NOTICEABLE , WHAT A SHAME I WILL GO BACK THERE AGAIN, THEY HAVE GREAT MARGARITAS, BUT NEVER WITH A DATE AGAIN, TO BAD MANAGEMENT DOES NOT CATCH THIS SITUATIONS OR MAYBE THEY DONT CARE, WHAT I EXPERIENCED WAS NOT SAID IN A WHISPERING MANNER, THIS GUYS WERE SCREAMING IT FROM ONE END OF THE RESTAURANT TO THE OTHER, WHAT A SHAME!!

While this place is known for its inexpensive taco night, I was there another night. One of the worst most unimaginative Mexican dinners that I have ever had. Tacky worn out decor. Mediocre service. Best I can say about this place is that I did not get food poisoning.

Mexican Food

by Lily B

I was one of the loyal customers at Don Antonios for years, my wedding rehersal after party was there. I had great memories until few weeks ago when I took my co-workers on a Wednesday night. Yes the day for taco special. Well because of transportation we were split in two cars. When 4 of us got there the host refused to give us a table because we were missing the rest of the group. I'm a latina and I spoke to her in spanish told her what was going on, I also asked if this was a new policy because I never had this problem & I requested to speak to the Manager, she still refused to give a table and refused to let me speak to the Manager instead walked away. Here I was feeling like a fool in front of my co-workers to whom I have pictured "Paradise". The host was rude and basically showed us the door. Our "fun" night turned out to be a nightmare, thanks to an uneducated host. Good bye Don Antonio's you broke my heart that night. My family and friends will never go back there again. Lilly B.
