consistently good authentic indian food, yummy samosas, fresh chutney, awful place, pleasant atmosphere, love kids, pricey naan
always good here. My girlfriend and I have eaten here many times. The staff is always friendly and food is always good. . The decor is a little old, but most places on Pico are. The newest place is across the street, but its not Indian food. We have never had any problems with the food there except for the fact we eat too much when we go there. The lunch buffet is ok for $7.95, what do you expect for 8 bucks?
Scary Bad.
Went there for the lunch buffet and I knew things were bad from the start. The carpet needed to be replaced about 20 years ago. The handles on the food warmers were all hanging on by a thread. The place just looks beat up and call me old school but when I see obvious signs of disrepair in the restaurant I wonder about the effort used in keeping the food fresh, clean and even safe.
The food itself was all bland. It was all old. The spinach was mush. They hand out free tandoori chicken to each table. It was dry like jerkey. No wonder theyre giving it away. The naan was like cardboard.
Then when we got the check, the owners infant child who was using the booth next to ours as her playpen, well she stole our pen that I was planning on using to sign the credit card receipt and she wouldnt give it back. Not cute. Just annoying.
This place is awful. AVOID IT
Best Indian Food in the Area. This is a family run restaurant that has been around for years and for good reason, the food is always very good. This is like a home style Indian restaurant and I have never been disappointed. It is a great place to bring the entire family, my kids love it. It is true that the decor is casual and outdated but for those who are more interested in the food then the atmosphere please try it! I always get the murg tikka makani, garlic nan, and the mushroom matar. It is located right across the street from the Westside Pavililion so it is perfect to grab a bite and see a movie. It is the best kept secret in the neighborhood.
I'd Rather Go Hungry Than Eat Here. Popped in on a Friday night ONLY because it was across from Westside Pavillion and had to catch a movie. Wow! is this place a dump. The lighting is purposefully dim to hide what appears to be years of accumulated grime on walls, stains on carpet and dilapidated furniture. I can't believe there are not better food options on Pico and places like this continue to survive. The staff seemed dead and depressed - much like the food. I could tell the chicken was past its expiration date as it had that tangy decomposing taste. Not even the spices could mask it. The rice was old, dry and reheated. And the prices are REDICULOUS! My girlfriend and I are embarrassed we ate there.
Disgrace to Indian cuisine. NIZAM restaurant was the worst Indian resturant I have ever eaten in. This place lacked service, taste, and class. Upon arrival, the kitchen staff were sleeping on the entrance benches, the table clothe and the curtains were very dirty, the menu was all torn apart, the meals were very poorly cooked and tasteless. Our waitress didn't even have the courtesy to come and refill our coffee, or drinks. She didn't even bother to ask us if everything was alright. The lemonade was made with Crystal Light, which made us laugh our buns off. No refills on drinks, bread, or condiments. Nizam restaurant is a disgrace to Indian cuisine and culture.
Boring!. Nizam is close to my house, and I was excited to have great Indian nearby. Unfortunately, the food was quite a disappointment. The staff were not particularly friendly, and the menu is not informative. I'm vegan, so it's nice to know which foods I can eat. Nizam's menu did not indicate vegan dishes, and when I ordered something that seemed dairy-free, it turned out to be milk-based.
I love this place. So glad I wandered in.. The buffets are very good and affordable. Decent atmosphere with very friendly host. Delivery is great as well. Everything is seasoned well. The chicken is perfect no matter what dish. I have eaten here about 6 times and I am about to order again. AND THERE IS PARKING RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER. Nice people. Go!
Authentic indian food and YUMMY samosas. If you like authentic indian food that actually has flavor in it you should try this place out. The samosas we got as appetizers were delicious and their chutney is so fresh and spicy. I for one cannot have indian food without some spice so that was a bonus for me. Their saag paneer is some of the best I have EVER had so make sure you get an order of that!! Their naan was a little pricey, but you have to get it, because what is indian food without naan!
A Mixed Bag. We love the food here, especially the vegetarian and seafood dishes. It really is some of the best Indian food in Los Angeles. And it's true the staff/owner does recognize regulars, making it feel like your cozy neighborhood place. However I was truly embarrassed when I brought a party of 10 people here last year, and the owner and waiter rushed us out of there at 9:30pm--I guess they wanted to leave. My guests were from Europe, where they are accustomed to having a long meal, and they were shocked. This was truly disappointing, and has prevented me from coming back, except for the ocassional take-out. Another criticism is that the decor is outdated, and they could use some soft ambient music--the silence can be awkard.
Exotic spices and traditional north Indian fare in a comfortable dining room..
In Short
This dimly lit cozy space is pleasant; the service gracious and relaxed. Traditional dishes can be prepared mild, medium or downright scorching. Entrees include murg tikka makhani; the house specialty of tandoor-baked chicken cloaked in tomato-cream sauce; and matar paneer, a curry of peas and homemade cottage cheese. Half a dozen other tandoori dishes, such as fish served with green chutney and marinated roasted lamb, round out the menu.
