The Scene – Imagine Dorothy's Kansas house dropped in front of the Westside Pavilion: white clapboards, plaid wallpaper and wood paneling. Suit-and-tie types, frat boys and families alike jostle for the 20 counter seats. – – The Food – The Westside's best burger, doled out in a paper wrapper, draws the carnivorous masses from all over town. The signature steak burger is a juicy, medium-thick patty on a seedless bun piled high with all the fixings--mayo, sweet relish, crunchy dill pickles, crisp iceberg lettuce and a slab of half-melted Tillamook cheddar. Excellent food if you can deal with the place

We went there today for the first time. When we sat down, we could see the counter man was in machine mode. Fast, fast, fast. Don't ask stupid questions. Give me your order. I had a tuna sandwich with swiss cheese on toasted rye. Came out just as I asked and delicious. My wife ate an egg salad sandwich and she loved it. In the meantime, people are starting to congregate around you watching as you eat. Don't take an extra minute or someone will be upset with you that you took too long.
Unique place with good food, but we won't be back. Too frenetic and high pressure. Just not worth the hassle. In addition, their signature apple pie wasn't that wonderful. OK, but I've eaten way better.
- Pros: Excellent
- Cons: Frenetic place

Some great all around food. Good wholesome dishes and who would have thought you could do so mch with apples!?!
- Pros: Example: best croissants in town

Something is dreadfully wrong with the rating of this restaurant. I have been meaning to get a burger here for years. I have always been thwarted by the lack of parking or crowd at the counter. I finally made it here yesterday with my wife and we were extremely unimpressed. The burger was really small! It costs $6.50(ala carte)for a burger the size of a McDonalds regular hamburger with lots of lettuce added. You get no fries for that price. It actually tasted ok, although overpowered by pickles and condiments. But, it is $11 for the same amount of food in a Happy Meal. And no I dont think McDonalds is great, I am just using it for a size comparison. I think it is the old world 1940's charm drawing in the crowds. "The Counter" in Santa Monica had a significantly better burger. Dont believe the hype surrounding The Apple Pan!
- Pros: old world charm
- Cons: value and parking
The Details on Apple Pan
Know Before You Go:
Don't ask for anything not listed on the menu--a slice of tomato, a milk shake--or the old guy behind the counter may give you a tongue-lashing.
The Extras:
Walk off that burger and pie with a stroll around the Westside Pavilion.
Save Time:
Don't let crowds scare you away. Ordering, devouring and paying for your burger takes less than 10 minutes, so lines move fast.
