Westside Refuge.
Inevitably when I'm hanging out on the Westside, I always end up at Liquid Kitty. The drinks are mighty potent and the vibe easygoing. It can get a bit crowded when they host bands or DJs, though. Try the house martini, which I believe still comes with a camel cigarette (yes, you have to smoke it outside).
The couches in back are quite comfortable and, if it's not too busy, offer the perfect chance to steal away for a moment.

Westside retreat. Finally, a cool, low-key bar on the Westside. The bar is dark, the drinks are strong, and it's quiet enough to carry on a conversation. But if you're looking to "hook-up," go elsewhere.
