Unless you love spicy foods like I do, you will notice that this restaurant is worth a try. Their chips and salsa are excellent and their huevos rancheros are delicious. I highly recommend trying their pozole, however, I must warn you that it is sometimes way too greasy. My only complaint is that it is overwhelming to look at all the stuff hanging all over the place.
Good VS Bad – I ate at Mi Ranchito last night with friends and family. I have to let you know about the mixed reviews.
I ordered the Posole. It was rainy last night so I couldn't wait to dive into a big bowl of soup, rich in flavor. I was shocked at what I was served and this is honestly what I was served. The waiter served me a large bowl filled with hot water that had some red chile sauce or enchilada sauce added on top, four chunks of hard pork were in the bowl that were obviously NOT cooked with the stock, not that there was a stock, and several kernals of hominy. There was nothing else in the sup, NADA! I cook posole and enjoyed it at various restaurants in the past. This was NOT posole. I felt as though the cook just tossed something together at the last minute instead of telling me that they didn't have any posole to serve. IT was horrible and I sent it back. After that, I didn't want to order anything else. There was a small plate of sliced radishes, cabbage and onions served along with the soup. DO NOT ORDER THIS DISH!
My brother and his wife shared a seafood cocktail. My brother is a commercial fisherman and we grew up eating only fresh seafood. We know the difference between old seafood and fresh. I asked his wife about the "cocktail" and she said that it wasn't made with fresh seafood. It was watery, too. It lacked flavor and was another bad dish on our table.
On the bright side, my son ordered a milanesa torta and liked it. The other members of our party ordered items such as tacos and enchiladas and liked their dishes.
The bill was for $99.00 and change. While looking at the bill, we all noticed that the prices had been changed and were not consistent with the prices on the menu. Be AWARE! If they had told us that the prices weren't the same as printed on the menu before we ordered then we would not have questioned the bill but we did and we never did get a good answer from the staff.
I won't be going back to this place. Its not run by a family who obviously wants to stay in business for years to come. I was hoping that we had a new good restaurant in the area and I was very disappointed last night. Mexican food should be rich in flavor ALWAYS or its just not Mexican food. El Mierdo' ito, Mi Ranchito. You get an F for trying to rip off your customers with bad food!
Waste of money in this economy. – I ordered a chicken salad for dinner tonight. It came on a salad plate with no flour tortillas, no dressing, 1 small sliced tomato, and a few slices of avacado. I also ordered two shots of tequilla and my bill came to $31.00. Are you kidding me? Maybe they had to raise the prices because no one is eating out. I will not be going back. I will not recommend this place.
The *Best* Mexican food in the area!!! – I used to frequent places like La Cabana, primarily for the margaritas. Used to.
Today, my girlfriend and I tried Mi Ranchito on a whim - and we are definitely going back.
To start with, you can pick the Tequila they use to make your margarita, with the higher end selections including Patron and Don Julio. They do good Tequila proper justice, and we responded in kind; the margaritas went down really well!
The food is delicious - not greasy, but very flavorful, with generous portions of cheese. The chicken fajitas are particularly tasty, and pretty much all their entrees come with the requisite fixins. They have very reasonable prices too - combine this with the quality of food and the generous portions and you will feel like you came out a winner.
The waitstaff is very friendly and attentive, and the ambience is nice and cozy. It reminded us of some of the better restaurants we have eaten in in Mexico. All in all, you cannot go wrong with this place - I highly recommend it.
Too die for guacamole~ no better home cooking than this – I love going here to eat my favorite guacomole and chips. The owners I have met and they are so sweet and gave me suggestions to try. Watch out for their food because it will want you wanting more and so that is why I come here regularly.
Great mom & pap, hole in the wall restaurant – My husband and I discovered this place as we were walking by one day and noticed all of the cool things in the window. The walls and ceiling are completely covered in random, colorful, antique paraphernalia. I agree that there could be better lighting (referencing comment made just below), but this is probably the only drawback to the place.
The servers are extremely friendly and efficient. And the food is delicious. There are so many Mexican and Oaxacan restaurants in the area, but this one stands out. The nachos are great, the food is fresh, and the dishes are a good size.
We'll definitely be back.
Pretty Good, Nice People. – I went here around lunch time on a weekday and ordered a tamale/enchilada plate, it was very dark, they didn't have any main lights on, it seemed like they weren't open, but there were other people eating there. Anyway, the chips and salsa were perfection, so I will be back, the food was good, the ambience was poor, the service was great!
Much better than Paco's Tacos – I am still baffled by the lines outside Paco's when you can eat at Mi Ranchito (which is just around the corner). We live about a block away from this restaurant so we go there often. It's very cheap, very authentic, and quite cozy. While you wait for your food, you can look around at all of the strange decorations on the walls and ceiling (a bit claustrophobic?). The salsa is amazing... very, very spicy. Since it is homemade each day, it is a little different each time that you go. The staff is very friendly, always greeting us, "hola amigos!". Also, the beans and rice that come with the entrees are probably the best I have ever tasted at a Mexican restaurant. Good tacos and enchiladas. One thing: don't go here if you don't like cheese... they are VERY generous!
excellent food, excellent service – This place has very good mexican food for very good prices. The people who work there are very kind and friendly. The chorizo breakfast is especially good.
Veracruz-style eatery with classic Mexican fare and friendly vibes. – In Short
The "little ranch" theme at this colorful eatery begins in the parking lot, where a bucolic mural featuring an oxcart welcomes customers. The interior is cozily cluttered with a profusion of bric-a-brac, ranchero-style and otherwise: wagon wheels, deer horns and marionettes. Homey fare a la Veracruz (seafood) includes the burrito de camarones, packed with shrimp, onions, peppers and tomatoes. Heaping plates of nachos match well with cold beer and satellite soccer.
