The Scene – While Central's halcyon days ended in the late '50s, Babe's & Ricky's Inn keeps the old-school ethos alive. Proprietress Laura Mae Gross has kept every bit of the blues-joint atmosphere. The walls are lined with a veritable hall of fame of blues greats and there are no bad seats in this intimate performance space. The food's delicious--Mama Laura's fried chicken is legendary--but it's the music that makes this venue a must for any blues lover. – – – –
The Blues in Los Angeles

I went there last night (Monday)(and was actually lucky enough to be sitting at a reserved table for mamma's family)..anyways it was my first time there, and being from Chicago I thought my days of goign to great blues bars were lost. Well I was happily proven wrong last night! This place is AMAZING and they definatly converted me into a regular there. Many peopel have said it's only $5 on Monday's, but it's actually $10..the drinks are insanely cheap, and around 11:00ish they serve food (for free) and it's amazing...fried chicken, hush puppies, potato salad ect.... I felt like I was visiting an old friend in the south, and them treating me like family...it was great! I highly suggest it to anyone and everyone!
- Pros: great blues music, free food, amazing atmosphere
- Cons: Hot (though that can be viewed as a pro as well)
Finally! A great blues club!

One of the best places in LA on a monday night. Finally! Going to this place is like walking out of LA and into the south side of Chicago. Like Chitown's Checkerboard and Lee's Unleaded Blues, Babe and Ricky's has good music, inexpensive drinks, and great atmosphere. Harvelle's and the other Leimert Park joints are cool, but this place is rollicking fun. The covers even includes a late night soul food buffet! Be sure to catch Mickey Champion singing.
Boring....No Energy

My wife and I went to this "venerable Icon" on 01/29/05. The stage band contiually attempted to insert some energy into a lackluster performance. The food was expensive but adequate.
All in all we were dissapointed and went home early that night.
I have seen and heard much better.
- Pros: Food
- Cons: Entertainment
