I don't like the name of this restaurant but the food is truly good-great for a lunch, location is strange but come for the food.

- Cons: strange location
Kitschy, Cool French hideaway
by kiercemartin at Citysearch
My girlfriend and I stopped in La Conversation on a whim for Sunday brunch, and we were both pleasantly surprised. We lucked out with an open table in the corner, as several others were still waiting on tables to open up. We had great service throughout, and there was a really nice local feel to the place, like everybody new everybody. It was just a really nice little comfortable place. Their pastries are incredible, and seem to be what people come for, but I had great pumpkin pancakes, and everything else looked pretty good as well. Definitely a cool little brunch or lunch hideaway.
Solid Standby

La Conversation is a great place to go if you have all day to dedicate to breakfast.
The food is rich, the prices are average for the area, and the wait staff is slow but accommodating.
Be prepared to wait for a table and hunt for parking.
Owners treat guests like family!

I used to live down the street from La Conversation on Dohney. I miss the family-like attitude of the restaurant. Although I would only go there once a week, the entire staff knew my name and were always interested in what I was doing. The owners even baked a huge birthday cake for me one year as a surprise. I don't know what that other reviewer was talking about. The Food is addictive! The salad nicoise is the best anywhere and they have the best breakfast in town. Don't go on a weekend or you'll die from the wait. Go on a weekday when the crowds are less.
- Pros: salad nicoise, cakes, pies, cookies
- Cons: avoid on weekends
Good food, atmosphere and celeb watching.

La Conversation is a joy to eat at. The food is really good and the atmosphere is wonderful. I had a wonderful warm feeling the minute I walked in. The service was good and the owners make you feel special. It is also a good who's who place. I recommend it highly. The pumpkin pancakes are a must. You can't go wrong with anything you order. Good prices and good food a great setting.
- Pros: ambience-food-service
Carrot Muffins Rock!
by carrotmuffin at Citysearch
This place is delicious and the carrot muffins rock! I work nearby and have been going there daily for years for my morning carrot muffin and often again for lunch the same day. While Im still half asleep the friendly staff great me by name and wish me a good day. The menu is delicious, fresh, creative and made to order . The pastires and backed goods are to die for (especially the carrot muffin right from the oven in the morning). My boss and I never order "as-is" from the menu - always "hold this" "add that" and the staff is willing to accomodate - with a smile! This place is a must! just dont take the last carrot muffin!
- Pros: Best pastries in town!
- Cons: get 'em while they last
DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS PLACE
by thefabulousmoolah at Citysearch
I went to La Conversation yesterday to get a cup of coffee and a muffin to go. I walked in, said hello , how are you to the guy behind the counter. I asked to have the half and half on the side so that I could put it in my own coffee. He snapped at me and said, "we will put it in for you."
I said ok but to please not make it too light...on the darker side would be good.
I paid for my bill, the coffee came out and it was very light. I asked for another cup. with that, he said to me , "F-----G pain in the A-S"
I was so taken aback that I was literally speechless and I said to him, "what did you say to me?"
with that he turned around and walked into the kitchen and told me to go to the back of the restaurant and fix my own coffee.
I could not get over that someone in a service business would speak to a customer this way.
When I asked one of the workers whether I could speak with a manager, they told me that the guy who spoke to me that way was THE OWNER.
Stunning, isn't it ? Do not give this guy a dime of the your money. I dropped in there because it was next to the place where I get my haircut. There are many other cafes in LA that are superior---Urth caffe, Le Pain Du Quotidien are two examples of places that are terrific and people are respectful and kind.
- Pros: location
- Cons: the owner is nasty to customers.
Absolutely unbelieveably bad.

I've been there twice. The first time I went I was treated rudely by the OWNER of all people (he rolled his eyes and snapped at me when I requested my dressing on the side- how is that a big deal??) and the second time the owner wasn't there but I found several (?!) hairs in my soup. I will never ever go again.
- Pros: good location to my job
- Cons: the owner, slow service, hair in my food, the prices

Frilly French parlor offering pastries and coffee, sandwiches and salads, and breakfast and brunch.
Good Food, Terrible Service
by paulywalnut at Citysearch
A charming little neighboorhood place for breakfast and lunch. Pretty good food, but the servers must be getting stoned every morning because they are all so slow, often forget things and just have no sense of urgency in taking care of guests. I live up the street, but the service is consistently so bad, that I just have to usually eat elsewhere - what a shame because it really has charm and character that is hard to find in LA
- Pros: Ambience, Food
- Cons: Service, Parking
