Great cafe
by tismeeh
My girlfriends and I usually come to Urth when we have a lunch date. We bring our dogs and we just chat for hours while pigging out and people watch.
This place is a little expensive though. I usually spend about $25-30 here for lunch, latte and dessert. Yes, I'm a little piggy, but the dessert selection is amazing!
My favorite here is the honey tea latte, curry chicken salad and Coconut pie. They ARE ALWAYS out of the coconut pie though. Maybe I should leave a nasty review about their coconut pies - lie and say it tastes like dry wall. hhehehe. then there'd be more for me!!! hehehe. just kidding.
Parking isn't so bad. There is always something on the street. Sometimes it takes a U-turn or 2. And if worse comes to worse, there is always valet. I think having to valet your car for a cafe is lame, but then again, it IS L.A.
Best Coffee on the Planet
by Starlingcity
Urth delivers QUALITY food and the BEST coffee I have ever had anywhere in the world. Their products are organic and they care about what is put on your plate. I drive all the way across town to get it and my only complaint is that there are no Urths east of Beverly Hills. The salads are incredible, fresh, original and totally satysfying. The baked goods are equally addictive. You will not go wrong if you order anything here and be prepared to buy some ground coffee to take home!
- Pros: Coffee, consistent qualty of product, terrace
- Cons: no parking, insufficient seating, need cafes in the Valley or Los Feliz
Redeem yourself: Sinfully rich desserts with environmentally sound ingredients.

The Scene
Urth is all-natural inside and out: Blonde wood, feathery green papyrus plants and turbinado sugar say it all. Place your order among the madding crowd at the counter and then try to nab a spot on the terraced patio, where model-types balance their organic meals by puffing on Marlboros.
The Food
Munch on the signature salad made with spinach, pine nuts and feta. Sink into a creamy chicken curry panini, or savor the rich, tomatoey gazpacho. Whatever you choose, just make sure to save room for dessert. Baked from scratch with mostly organic ingredients including fresh juice, sweet cream butter and toasted nuts, they keep crowds coming back for more. Cloudlike berry cake, 18-Carrot Gold cake, deep-dish apple pie and classic New York cheesecake earn their reputations. Wash your selection down with flavorful organic coffee, tea or a perfectly foamy cappuccino, and head home happy.
Save your money $$ and eat somewhere else down the street
by popcorn2008
I would not waste my time at this restaurant. I am really picky about good food and price is not the factor when I write this review about the restaurant. Desserts are mediocre and the food is horrible. I say with experience of visiting 3 different times. Please save your money and eat somewhere else down the street. There are so many other good places to eat at in LA.
- Cons: FOOD, DESSERT, PARKING

Great Coffee creations and the desserts are heavenly
by chris323
I go here all the time with the girlfriend and the service is wonderful each time. Go here during the week you can periodically see a celeb (Lindsay Lohan, one of the guys from CSI: Miami, a Baldwin brother (can't tell them apart)) were a few we saw there. I would say that the coffee is consistent on its preparation (unlike Starbucks where one day your drink may taste great...and the other it seems the barista poured too much milk). I haven't really dabbled into the menu much...since I use this as my dessert and coffee place after dinner. The prices are reasonable. Their large coffee mugs run about $5...and two can share it.
The only drawbacks is the utter lack of parking. Given its proximity to another restaurant and the nightclub, Villa, you'd be very hard pressed to find parking Thursday through Saturday night (however, every day is a challenge to find parking). WeHo's parking restrictions make parking off in the residental areas a very bad proposition.
A great place with a great heart!
by chefstar
After a wander through the Bodhi Tree, the Urth Caffe is a great place to get that book started! The drinks are wonderful, hot and fresh. The desserts are decadent or simply Delicious! The wait is never long. The people watching is always entertaining and the location is perfect. I have had the chance to meet the owner of Urth Caffe and he is a good soul with a good heart. People and businesses like this shoud be supported! A perfect start to a Sunday morning!
- Pros: Location - Food - And Service
- Cons: I wish the outdoor patio was bigger!
Worst delivery service ever
by andrewmodelski
The good food fails to make up for the ALWAYS HORRIBLE SERVICE. My order tonight took 2 hours to be delivered. In the past, they have done the opposite of my desired order. I will never order from them again and I recommend anyone who doesn't like unpleasant surprises to do the same.
BAD Tea!
by NSis
The Urth Cafe in Santa Monica is less crowded than the one in W Hollywood, which is good, but as a tea drinker I was very disappointed. They serve black tea in a French press with a small and inadequate amount of loose tea. Instead of bring it right out to you, they keep the tea to steep it in the back and bring it out with the press pushed down about 7 minutes later. If you complain that the tea is not dark enough, or hot enough, they will tell you to steep it more. This has happened to me about 3 times before I quit ordering tea there and started bring my cup of Peet's great tea over there to meet my friend. Even if you order something to eat, like a muffin, they will ask you to leave the restaurant with you cup of competitor's tea. I think they are very rude.
- Pros: Good Location
- Cons: Bad Tea
Worst location out of all Urth Cafes!
by ladyvenice
...I'd be repeating the same stories as the reviews above me if I went on- they are all fairly correct. On a more positive note, the other Urth Cafe locations don't have this same downfall- oddly enough, the least pretentious one is defenitely Beverly Hills. I can usually find a seat, and a decent one at that- it's more spacious, no smoking, nicer staff....I have to say, in West Hollywood, you'll be so angry with the whole experience by the time the food comes, you can't appreciate the quality- actually the food is quite good, especially desert. They have the best lattes and espresso drinks I've ever had- but it doesen't ever compensate for "scene".
- Pros: Truly great coffee and deserts
- Cons: No parking, no seating and no help finding seating
