Nice late lunch & people watching spot
by thetopmop
A friend took me to Clafoutis on my first trip to Los Angeles, and ever since, it's been in my restaurant repertoire every time I visit. The servers are friendly (we always spend at least an hour or two there), and I highly recommend snagging a table on the sidewalk for some late lunching and people watching. Their seared tuna with mashed potatoes is super yummy, especially with a bottle of champagne and some dessert to top it off.
- Pros: Free parking lot in the back; friendly service
Great Service and Friendly atmosphere
by hungrykat
I must admit, after reading the reviews, I was skeptical. But, this place proved every negative review out on the message board which led me to question the validity of their reviews. I presonally like this place much better than La Petit Four and will be going there every time I find myself in the area :) I am a definite repeat customer
- Pros: Service, cost
- Cons: it can be a bit of a horse and pony show with the cars and people watching
Good Fun
by ezzykins
Good food, good service. Bottles of wine were not expensive. We were able to have a great dinner for two with bottle of wine for under $100. The people watching was great and we didnt have to wait for a patio table.
- Pros: parking in back, people watching, price

Great casual dining
by lysdexic
I am a regular here, my gf and I both love the food and the people. In defense of the waitress who emphasized that tips were not included, it was not a question of racism so much as a reflection of the usual clientele. There are a large number of Europeans who eat here, mainly French, and in Europe service is always included in the bill. If they don't remind them they will get stiffed.
I find the food excellent and the prices reasonable considering the location. The duck is always very good and the ribeye is wonderful. Any of the desserts (freshly made on the premises) is worth the calories.
Why is this place so popular??
by marpop
The reason this place is so popular is because 1) followers think they 'should' eat here cos it's on Sunset Plaza so that makes them feel important 2) rich bald men (or young hotshots) just want to show off their fancy car if they can find a parking spot out front and 3) it really does offer some great people-watching. The restaurant is named after the French dessert, but i've never even had it here. The food -- LIKE ALL THE PLACES ON SUNSET PLAZA -- is pretty substandard in the same vein that I find Red Lobster, Olive Garden and Chili's substandard. It's like a glorified Mimi's Cafe or something. So yes, it's great for ogling people ogling other people, but beyond that, not much below the surface.
- Pros: The human comedy
- Cons: The human tragedy
Insulting and Discriminatory Attitude
by acrosskill
The meal was fine and the service OK until the bill came. That's when things went sour.
For some reason, the waitress felt that it was necessary to UNDERLINE and CIRCLE MULTIPLE TIMES the blurb on the bill that states "GRATUITY IS NOT INCLUDED". It seems the myth that black people do not tip is alive and well in this restaurant. We respectfully brought it to the attention of the waitress and manager that this sort of action was unacceptable and unprofessional. Of course, the waitress denied that her decision was discriminatroy and said that she does this on ALL her bills. The manager, whom I'm most disappointed in, said nothing if you can believe it.
All this leads me to conclude that this is an establishment that thinks that it is OK to discriminate against people who are deemed not to be tippers. It was a good evening spoiled, and I hope Clafoutis never does this sort of thing to another customer.
ps
We left a big tip for the service we received up until we were disrespected.
Traditional French bistro fare surrounded by West Hollywood's ritziest boutiques.

In Short
With a prime Sunset Strip location, this bistro is the perfect people-watching spot--especially for patrons who can snag tables on the sidewalk patio. Diners select dishes from an eclectic menu that includes starters such as crab cakes with green peppercorn sauce, and smoked salmon-goat cheese roulade. The popular house salad is a mix of goat cheese, grapes and walnuts in raspberry vinaigrette. The more traditional chicken Sunset is basic bistro: grilled and served with shoestring fries.
Sunset Strip Hang Out
by janicebarthelemy
The food is better here than down the block at Petit Four. But all else is the same, crowded patio, people who go there to be seen and heard. If you want to watch the beautiful people and the rolls royces and ferrari's passing by, this is the place for you.
- Pros: Probably the best food in the Sunset Plaza area
had great experience there
by skyeye519
I usually eat at the place next door because they have a seafood salad I love, but decided to give this place a try.
had the eggs benedict with salmon on Thurs lunch time. it came with a side salad and rich potato slices. Rich rich rich food. good thing the salad balanced it out. had a latte and the bill was $16 something.
service was great and friendly, but i did come at a off peak time. I'm coming back and will try the pasta next time.
Def come if you want some comfort food.
- Pros: good service on weekday lunch
