Good, healthy food with deli style setting
by diamamamia
This is one of the many brunch places I tried within a month span in West Hollywood. I loved the healthy, organic foods they offered. Loved my bloody mary, too. The food tasted very fresh. Not comfort food cause it was kinda healthy. I liked it, but you have to be in the mood. Good price and expect a deli, crowded atmosphere.
- Pros: Healthy, fresh food
- Cons: Crowded
Above Average Food, inconsistent service
by IACMY
1 associate who prepared and gave me my to-go order was very friendly. The associate who took my phone order was a bit stoic.
I asked if they validated, only to receive a smirk and remarked that there is a $3 fee after 6PM ( which ended up being $4) for a five minute pick up.
Food is above average.
- Pros: high quality ingredients
- Cons: inconsistent staff
I had to do business with the general manager...

never seen anything like it. Great guy. Treats the staff amazingly well.
Food is great, service is great. Starts from the top down, people.
If the great food isn't enough for you, or the people watching not interesting, then go because of the respect that is given to the employees. Places like that should be supported!
My favorite Breakfast Place - Good for Lunch too!!
by bohoyuppiecouple
My favorite place to get breakfast in LA. The mimosa comes with a do it yourself kit of fresh squeezed OJ and a mini bottle of champagne. The food is organic and the restaurant is very big since the renovation, though the bathrooms are the sometimes typical onesies. The wait can get intense between 11am and 2pm on weekends, but the free and spacious parking out back makes up for the occasional wait. I am an eggs benedict man but the more California style breakfasts are delicious as well. Healthy eaters will find plenty to choose from. Great expresso too!!!
Used to be good...sort of gone downhill...
by acesveryhigh
I used to eat here more than once a week, but ever since they re-opened after the remodel and everything I haven't been too impressed. The atmosphere and food suffer compared to what it used to be. It was always just a nice, casual place to grab a quick bite, but I don't find myself going unless I have to.
Hugo's is a "No-Goes" for us
by mhb1954
I was surprised to read all of these positive reviews. I had breakfast there today and it was absolutely terrible. I had eggs benedict and I've seen and tasted better at a Denny's in the middle of Nebraska. My partner had some sort of tortilla egg scramble which was just indescribably odd, and the potatoes were dry and overcooked. While I'm at it, the coffee was terrible. I eat out a lot in a lot of different cities and countries, and I know good food. Hugo's doesn't have it... Hugo's is a no-goes for me!
- Pros: Cheerful atmosphere and fun to people watch
- Cons: Just don't expect to eat well...

Love the Skirt Steak Vera Cruz
by jericsmall
Every few weeks, something or someone reminds me of Hugo's and I immediately begin to salivate. Almost invariably when I go to Hugo's in West Hollywood, I'll order the skirt steak vera cruz. It comes with a great dipping sauce with the perfect kick. The side dishes are great too, making for an overall great dinner. Order their strawberry shortcake (when in season) with the sweetened fruit glaze and you'll be in heaven. Generally the place is popular but not usually enough to have a wait. And somehow I always do find parking in back, which is absolutely necessary here in West Hollywood. In a word, a GO.
- Pros: Awesome dishes
- Cons: Ambience is a bit boring
Breakfast is the highlight of the day at this West Hollywood hipster hot spot.

In Short
Patrons lounge about and try to spot the celebs behind scruffy duds and sunglasses at the next table over. Although lunch and supper are served, the breakfast menu is the real draw, with highlights like spiced pumpkin pancakes doused in butter and syrup. The veggie farmer's plate is grilled tofu on a bed of spinach and purple cabbage, surrounded by mushroom-and-polenta triangles. Pasta Papa is a giant bowl of linguini scrambled with eggs, bacon and sausage.
Beyond Breakfast
by dine_out_la
Some of the best restaurants in LA are often indicated by how prepared you have to be in advance if you want to get a table. Hugo's is no exception (for breakfast anyway). It's been a neighborhood favorite FOREVER. And it's even better now. More light, airy, and comfortable (i love the booths--very "in crowd"). Food's still great, maybe even better. I was always one to go in for breakfast, but with the fresh dinner and drink menu it makes for a great night spot too. Grab dinner, then go to whatever's next for you that night. I like that I can either eat comfort food (mmmm, mac n cheese) or something more healthy (love the salads!). They lean adventurous without going too far. And they do the muddled fruit & herb drink trend well (can you say Mojito).
- Pros: Good food, not super expensive
- Cons: west hollywood can be hard for parking, but they have a lot in back.
Check It Out For Yourself
by freqdiningout
In conjunction with the comment "thinking twice before you eat at Hugo's," I went to the LA County Health website and looked up the violations myself. The vermin this person spoke of unfortunately are very hard to control. which is why the restaurant was closed, but it never said anything about "prevention of entry," nor did it give exact reasons. It gives examples as to why they were in violation, but doesn't say specifically that they were using unclean untensils. In college, I worked as a server and as gross as it is, most restaurants have to struggle with controlling vermin. I eat at Hugo's regularly and was disappointed that it was closed for close to two months. During that time, they did a complete overhaul and remodel. The place looks great, but I think that it's louder now, which I'm not fond of. I was happy to see the same great menu and many of the same smiling faces. I can also say that I haven't seen a single insect, so I think that they have taken care of that problem.
- Pros: Food, Service
- Cons: Noise level, at night it's too dark
