worst experience ever!

We were at this "trattoria" called restaurant and I can't think of anithing good. First when we arrived the manager told us that our table wasn't ready, altough we called in advance and they told us that our table will be ready, after waiting 30 minutes at thye bar, a manager that identify himself as Giuseppe took us to a table, but inside! altough we had reserve outside this giuseppe told us "outside people smoke " and try to scared the rest of the people in my party by talking about how people smokes outside and on. Not only that we sat down in a table we didn't like but also the food was cold but at this point we ate it anyway, do you think that's all? I wish it was, since the waiter provide a lousy service, rolling his eyes everytime we call him and knowing he was not gonna get a good tip he added by hand 20% tip at the bottom of the check we paid and leave. I didn't want to say anything then because my friends were there and I didn't want to argue at that point. of course I will never come back to ago and make sure that all my friends know hat kind of place is this so called fine dining restaurant.
pros: none, the wine expert is not longer there.
- Pros: Example: best croissants in town
- Cons: What are the drawbacks?
Disappointing

The experience is simply not worth the price. The food can either be excellent or chef Boyardee. We had the most perfect Fritto Misto and the worst Spagetti Allo Scoglio. The wine list is lacking and overpriced. We had a Vermentino that was three years old and I am sure it must have been delicious if we had enjoyed it two years ago. The worst however was that we were served by an obnoxious waiter that kept saying "Beautifull", "Wonderfull" practically to himself everytime he came to the table. The busboy must have been instructed to make as much noise as possible when clearing the table and tried to be cute pouring the water like he was performing a Mayan ritual.
No, No, No.
This was not the first time we go, but it will be the last. If I am going to pay top dollar for dinner I am going to drive to Brentwood and go to Vincenti Restaurant where the quality and service is worth the price.
THE ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD!!!!!!
by winey1 at Citysearch
So I was here on New Year's eve and I know, I shouldn't expect much on that night but I could never have dreamt of a worse experience!!! First of all when we called to make the reservation they assured us that they were serving their regular menu. Personally, I think this is the most over-rated restaurant in the universe, the food is marginal normally and WAY over priced but my friend like's it here. When we sat down they handed us a "New Year's Eve" menu. What they essentially did is take a few things off their regular menu and jacked the price up 3x at least. $28 for a green salad???????? I asked our waiter who was seriously, the rudest person I've ever encountered, for a wine list by the glass. He said they didn't have one, which I happen to know is untrue. When I finally got him to admit they do have one he said, "yeah but not tonight" Oh I get it, so you can charge me $30 for a glass of $5 chianti???!!!! What he brought me was undrinkable. Not only did he roll his eyes every time we asked him a question he was actually venomously rude. At the end of this horrendous night I understood why. What did he care, they added 20% tip no matter how many people in your party. One person in our party ordered the salmon, which I'm not sure why being that the smell of bad fish in the entire restaurant was making me gag. When we tried to tell the waiter that it was horrible his response was "well you put sauce all over it" that was to mask the stench!!!! My friend wouldn't let me see the check when it came but I'm sure the curmudgeon didn't take it off the bill. When the desserts came they looked like they had taken them off unfinished plates from other tables. HOW DOES THIS PLACE STAY OPEN?????????
- Pros: NONE!!!!!!
- Cons: horrible food, high prices, rude service
GREAT FOOD, EXCELLENT SERVICE, RIGHT ON THE MONEY!

I initially made reservations at IL SOLE for my husband's birthday dinner. However, we were given the "RUSH" at greeting point. We were told that we can only have our table at Il Sole for 1 hour and 15 minutes, which is not enough time to celebrate a birthday with 4 guests. We decided to go to AGO instead and ENJOYED every second of it. From the greeting to the end! We had their soft shell crab special and fritto misto for appetizers, the crab was mouthwatering!!! not overpowering, cooked perfectly! and their Fritto Misto was delicious! not oily, you can taste the squid and chew comfortably. For main course, I had seafood risotto which was nevertheless, a great choice!! my husband had their lamb special, which he devoured! as it was very good! We had a $90 bottle Barbaresco to drink with our food.- PAIRED WELL, thanks to the Somelier... and didn't feel rushed! Our daughter had the Fillet of Sole which was NO WAY NEAR "IL SOLE" Overall, this place is worth the BUZZ! We had a great time and our guest enjoyed the dinner as well. Spent $350 for four - WELL WORTH IT!!!!
- Pros: warm service, hot food, cool vibe, no pretense
- Cons: nada
Bad Food, Expensive, and bad service!
by aaangha at Citysearch
This place is a typical LA ?hip? restaurant. The food was very bad quality, same sauce for the lamb and steak! Over cooked and dry steak. Appetizers were decent, especially pasta sampler. The service was so bad and unprofessional. It?s the type of service that you get at a 2 star restaurant; however the manager was very polite and caring. We had a big group of 14 people, came up to be $150 per person, the quality of the service and food was close to a $50 place, so over all I would say a rip off. I won?t go there for the second time, unless I have to for a BD party or something
- Pros: Ambience
- Cons: Service, Price, Food
Refreshingly Simple Plates with EXTRAORDINARY Flavor!
by artegone at Citysearch
Wow, I didn't know that pasta could taste this good! I'm not kidding you when I say that I was delightfully surprised with every bite. From the apps to the main course to dessert: everything I tried was STELLAR! It's a rare & welcome occassion that I leave a restaurant in LA thinking, "wow, that was worth every penny!" Perhaps more refreshing was the simplicity of dishes. There are no complicated flavor combinations or frilly garnishes or overly structured presentations at Ago--just phenomenal fare made with fresh ingredients. Great wines & service too.
Great food, horrible service

If you want great food, but would like to be seated 1 1/2 hours after your reservation then this is place for you. I have been to Ago many many times (not by choice my friends don't mind waiting at the bar and checking out the scene for over an 1 hour and as I said the food is great). The host and hostess do not care if you are a regular patron unless you slip them a $50 bill (which did happen on a date and they did sit us right away), which I think is ridiculous especially after spending so much on the food. If you do go the pizza, mushroom risotto, and pasta on the menu is fantastic. The meat and fish dishes are so/so. If you do get the langostinos appetizer (not on the menu you have to special request them), be aware that they are seasonal and can cost you upwards of $60 depending on the day.
