The joke is on us
by theroboticdan
I went once and they just let us in for free. But we saw this late-late night variety show that ended up being the most depressing act I've ever seen live.
Was going to go back this weekend to see a friend do stand up, but probably not anymore. Tickets are 15 dollars (for someone famous maybe, but a friend?) And with a two drink minimum and mixed drinks running around 10 dollars, that puts the price at 35 bucks. Add my date in and its 70 dollars.
- Pros: Great location
- Cons: So pricey
A Comedy Store is a Comedy Store is a Comedy Store.

You will laugh your butt off Cinco de Mayo weekend when a dirty-mouthed Puerto Rican, Cuban activist, Mexican gangster and a gay comedian take the stage at 8:30 pm. Do not miss this. 5-3-09 Rick Martinez, Luis Moro, Eddie G., Jason Landau perform.
- Pros: You can hear and see stage perfect-food is not that bad.
- Cons: Parking. But it is Hollywood.
As much of a crtic I am... I really liked this place

I went on a night when there was like 15 comedians.... i don't know, maybe that is typical?... They were good, some were a lot better. What I like was: the guy I spoke with on the phone about times and more info, etc was SO friendly and enthusiatic about the two different shows.. I want to say his name was Mike ro something.. (sorry... i dont remember) -- the guy at the door when we arrived was very nice, accomodating, and great, the comedians were great, the waitress was actually friendly (i read the reviews about them beforehand so maybe I had low expectations...?), and we didnt wait too long for drinks -- although she looks extremely busy... afterwards, the cute girl bartender was giving us the scoop on my favorite comedian -- whom i stalked after the show of course....... ahhhhhhhhh ... bobby lee... what a guy. All the comedians there awesome though, Kirk Fox, Dov Davidov, etcetc.... fun night. But wish I would have made out with at least one of them ... ok, ok,.... i am married.. what of it??? :)
- Pros: Everyone there was great
- Cons: cant really think of any.... is that stupid??
I Had a GREAT time!

I haven't been to the "COMEDY STORE" in years! I always thought it would be to crowded or a hassle, but I was totally wrong! I really don't understand the bad reviews on here (which I read before I went) and I went on a Saturday night!
OK- $20. parking, but if you are aware of the towing scam the City of West Hollywood has, it is worth it.
I went on a Blind Date and had a great experience.
First of all, it's not that expensive to get in and my bar bill was less than $25. and that included a $10. tip I gave. It was not crowded and I saw some big names (I forgot? some Mad TV people). For seeing around 10 acts and laughing so hard my jaw hurt, it was well worth it.
- Pros: Outside Bar if you want to smoke
- Cons: $20. parking
waitress with attitude
by notfunny
I attended a show at the Comedy Store recently for a benefit. Our waitress had long dark hair and looked hispanic. We could never find her, and flagged down other waitresses to get service. My friend eventually became frustrated and went to collect her bill. The waitress was immediately defensive. Her speech was "street" and rude. She was insecure about her service, and it seems, prejudice against white women who make money, as her defense was to say she brought drinks to the other people at our table (all of whom were men). My friend lost her temper and called the waitress a c-word, which was accurate though not professional, so management backed the employee. Needless to say, we will not be going back. If you go, avoid this girl.
Good in the beginning, but went down hill quickly

Went there on a friday night for a line up of comedians. Some of the early comedians were hilarious including a guy named Bret Ernst. However, half way through the night, it started going down hill, really fast. Particularly bad was a guy named Brian Holtzman. He was terrible. All he kept doing was yelling into the microphone. The whole place lost energy after that and half the people left. When comedians start picking on the audience cause they're bombing, you know it's just going to get worse. A lot of Holtzman's jokes were just hateful, not even really clever. Moral of the story, the comic line up is a mixed bag, but they probably put the better comedian earlier on in the night.
- Pros: Bret Ernst, Bobby Lee, Ian Edwards
- Cons: Parking, Brian Holtzman = worst comedian I've ever seen
Mack Lindsay out of context
by kremlin
Support Mack Lindsay. I was at the Comedy Store the night that Mack Lindsay had his supossed call to racial hatred,... what ever. The table he was talking to wouldn't shut their arrogant mouths the entire night! They didn't like his comedy and yelled out derogatory statements themselves way before he even engaged them. He then resorted to saying some ignorant quips, all of which were tempered with absurd irony, not hate. The stuff that good stand up is made of, which is why there were people laughing the entirity if his set. I was there when he apollogized, and it was sinscere. Though I along with others who saw it feel that he didn't need to. His recaction was not without provocation! Those middle American tourist asked for it. I have seen Mr. Lindsay perform a thousand times, and he is a talented creative man. And, if there is one thing he is not, it is a bigot!! I am not some kind of Klan sympathizer, just a customer who doesn't wan't a really good comic and person judged on a biased misrepresentation. Don't boycott Mack Lindsay, and be thankfull that the Comedy Store produces real stand up comedians, not a bunch of watered down push overs.
- Pros: Mack lindsay
- Cons: Conservative audiences
BOYCOTT MACK LINDSAY and THE COMEDY STORE
by houston_to_la
Went to this club with my friend. I'm asian, my friend is black. There were only 8 people tops in the audience so the comics know who we are. Anyways, this comedian MACK LINDSAY lost it on stage and pulled a Michael Richards. Called my friend an ape and said 'you must be sad God made you black.' I told him he was out of line and then he goes off on asian people (wasn't actually listening to him at this point but probably something to the effect of school nerd, small wang, etc etc heard it all before). I don't get offended easily, but I hate people who resort to such unoriginal, pure hate tactics. No comedic talent involved at all. Anyways, I stuck around to try to talk some reason in the guy who insulted my friend. The bouncer ushered us out of the club so we wouldn't make a scene, my friend was already giving Mr Lindsay the bird. Mack Lindsay 's no monster but he is a bigot as evidence by his quick readiness to racial slurs and casual apologies. Meanwhile, his comedian friends were emphasizing 'comedic license.' Well, fight inapprorpiate speech with more speech. So I'm saying don't ever go see Mack Lindsay, and boycott the Comedy store until they clean up their acts. Sadly one of the managers said he was regular at this place.
- Pros: a few good upcoming comics
- Cons: mack lindsay
Great if you want to catch something.

Ok so lets get past being over charged the last 2 times I went. I checked, a well vodka tonic has never cost 10.50 sweetheart .There was this super drunk waitress who spent most of her time stumbling around, or on her cell phone & before the show was even over there she was at the front bar doing 3 more shots. I guess blondes do have more fun but aside from the staff getting trashed and the only food being popcorn and cookies made and bagged by one of the waitresses (yuck) (I hope it is NOT the drunk one) the comedy was really good but these guys work all over town go to the laugh factory or the improv these places are much cleaner and the staff waits till AFTER work to get trashed....
- Pros: The comics do there job and make you laugh
- Cons: The girls are NOT friendly and they over charge. NO FOOD
This crazy, creepy, cavernous club is still one of the top comedy showcases in the world.

The Scene
The darkest comedy club of 'em all. This pitch-black box on the Sunset Strip is rumored to be haunted by performers (and mobsters) of old. Presiding over the joint since 1972 is the Shore family, first by matron and stage mother Mitzi, now son Paulie. Three rooms feature comedy seven nights a week: Main Room, Original Room, and the intimate Belly Room upstairs. Watch your step around this place; they saved the lights for the stage.
The Draw
A virtual "who's who" of comedians have and continue to perform here. Roseanne, Richard Pryor, Jim Carrey, David Letterman, Andrew "Dice" Clay and Robin Williams all cut their teeth on Comedy Store stages. Many still drop in to try out new stuff. If you're a stand-up comedian today, you're playing this club--or trying to.
