I have heard of Chez Shea for some time and was waiting for a special occasion to try it. Four of us went there for my birthday and tried the chef's tasting menu. We thought the food was well prepared and it was fun to try 8 different things. We were totally stuffed by the 5th dish and had a wonderful time. Our server was so kind and the place was not pretentious at all. Overall, it was expensvie about $500 for 4 people but worth the money and experience.

I'll start off by saying outright that Chez Shea was simply fantastic! * Outstanding service (our waitress gave us plenty of time to decide on dinner choices, and was alert enough to realize that when we started eating our bread we were probably hungry enough to order dinner - a really nice touch!). * Amazing food (I highly reccommend the beef tenderloin - it's so tender, it cuts like butter...a great piece of meat!) * Incredible ambience (great shades of red, candlelight, and a quiet, intimate atmosphere). I have found one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I'm looking forward to the summer menu!

Pros: Great service, amazing food

Cons: None I can think of - a truly great experience

My partner and I like to eat out a lot, and this was one of the nicest places we've been to in quite some time. The service, food, and atmosphere were excellent. We weren't kept waiting at any point in the meal. They didn't make a show of themselves when they came to the table, but they weren't impersonal either. I prefer a waitperson who fills your water or brings you a napkin, and you never noticed it happened. First I had the amberjack ceviche,...wow. It was mouthwatering. The textures were nice too. Second was the Kobe Style Beef Tartar. It's the best I've ever had, and was surprised at the sensual nature of such a dish! A lot of restaurants in Seattle serve something they call a beef tartar, that's basically unseasoned raw ground beef. There is little or no effort put into the dish. Don't miss the tartar at Chez Shea! For the entrée I felt like I didn't have enough beef yet, so I ordered the Kobe Beef Tenderloin with Hedge Hog & Black Trumpet Mushrooms, White Truffle Mashed Potatoes & Demi Glace. If they'd thrown a wedding dress on the tenderloin I would have fallen in love it was so perfect. When the waitress asked me how I like my steak done I was shy about asking for it to be between rare, and medium rare, which she noticed and said she also liked hers to be cooked to that in between place too. My partner loved her blacked cod. For dessert I had the Meyer Lemon Pavlova. I find many lemon desserts too sour and make my cheeks hurt like I'd been blowing up balloons. Not so in this case. My partner would describe the decor as 'french dive bar meets seattle'. I noticed that they were able to achive romantic lighting without it being too dark. You could see your meal and the other patrons. I can't wait to go back!

I have been to Chez Shea 4-5 times now and I have gotten excellent service and wonderful seasonal food cooked to perfection each time. I do admit their wine selection is a bit expensive but it is so worth the atmosphere, the experience, and the delicious food. Keep up the good work guys!! I am looking forward to my next time!

Pros: Atmosphere, Excellent Service, Delicious Food

returning from vacation in France my contry of birth, and visiting my childrens in Seattle we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at chez Chea. the Duck was fantastic, as well as the oysters. it was much better than the same that we had in Dordogne and Bretagne. the wine list is also very very fair. i will go back there first chance i get when we return to visite here from California compliments to the chef.. I have to say that I truly love the space that makes up Chez Shea. It is cute and intimate and always makes me feel like I am in a movie as I look out across the market roof. I cannot say that I feel the same fondness for the food, however. Although it is very tasty, the portions are so small that it almost is not worth eating there! It is one of those restaurants where everything is exquisitely presented, but underneath the sprouts and fancy sauce, there isn’t much there. I have eaten there three times and each time my party and I left to go somewhere else for a late night snack despite the fact that we had already spent over $150.00! My recommendation would be to start off at Chez Shea for a drink and an appetizer and then to go somewhere else for the rest of your meal!

Pros: Romantic space

Cons: Too expensive for portion size.

I've been to Chez Shea twice in the last year, and was happy both times. My first time there we went withfriends and it was wonderful--it was a set menu, slightly different to what they have now (less choices in the courses, except the entree). The service was wonderful. The first two courses are set, (first course was a tart)with a choice of the third course and entree. I was allergic to the first course, so they made something separate for me. My husband ordered the beef, which was perfect, and I had the vegetarian option (an amazing take on lasanga--layers of crepe, bechemel sauce and vegetables). The second time there were choices for each course as it is now; again wonderful service, excellent beef tenderloin, but the duck was only okay. Still, I would definately go back.

Pros: Wonderful food, service and ambience

Cons: Duck was overdone

In my honest opinion, this French restaurant is way overrated... However, the place is both romantic and creepy.. We ordered the tasting menu, well, the food taste's below what we're expecting and it's pricey for a small restaurant like this. The service was very good though..

Pros: Prompt service

Cons: Pricey, food is just OK.

Very intimate setting and not too noisy. I like the fact the restaurant is a little hidden, I think it's part of the charm. I had a couple of signature cocktails, all very tasty. I also enjoyed all three courses there. I had the lemon tart for dessert, it was flaky, soft, and flavorful. Overall the experience was excellent!

Everything about this place was perfect. The food to the view to the impeccable service, this was more than dinner it was an event. We ordered the chef's menu and our server timed each course perfectly. The food was inventive and amazing. The wine paired perfectly. At first being sat, I was concerned about what seemed closely spaced tables but it turned out not to be an issue. This place struck all the right notes creating a perfect intimate delicious experience.

Pros: tucked away market location, service, food

Cons: nothing should stop you from visiting
