I Love This Place

by Jon Rapoport

In a city that is all about the new, this place’s greatest charm is its old age. I would bet it looks virtually identical to what it looked like in the 40’s. The foods great, the waitresses can be tough and you may sit next to somebody famous. It’s a wonderful experience. The egg dishes, notably the lox benedict is fabulous. Great soups and big sandwiches. Best deli in LA!

  • Pros: Food, atmosphere
  • Cons: Can be crowded on weekends

Best Deli in BH

by dzagat

Family run old school deli with great food and great servers with lots of personality. This place is a throwback to another time. It never disappoints.

  • Pros: Great food and classic deli vibe.

They brough me just 1 matzoh ball and yellow broth; no other ingredients in the matzho ball soup!

Terrilble, crowded overpriced for what you get. Factor's has better food and is more comfortable. Junior's and Brent's are much better, also. Jerry's Deli chain is even better.

comfortable place in BH

by dthstar

this place has mediocre jewish deli food but it's comfortable to be at (for beverly hills) and the servers have been there for ages- they call you 'honey' and 'sweetheart' so it kinda' makes you feel like you're 'at home'... they give you heaping servings of salad and the lima bean soup is to die for (&most people don't like lima beans- trust me on this one). i saw liz taylor here a couple of time, plus all these old-time obscure actors you don't know the names to but recognize always hang out here. too bad theyr close at 9pm... but old people eat supper around 4-5 and go to bed early so it makes sense.

  • Pros: large menu selection
  • Cons: closes at 9pm

A place with personality

by simplesbest

I have a tough time deciding what to eat, particularly when a menu is pages long and offers such a broad variety of choices as it does at Nate 'n Al's - traditional deli fare, breakfast all day, salads, etc. I've been here a couple times and the eclectic, efficient, super friendly waitresses have never let me down. "You're deciding between the tuna melt and white fish? Go with the tuna melt. A couple customers have mentioned that the white fish is on the fatty side today." Where else do you get that type of honesty? In addition, the food is inexpensive, the place is homey, and the portions are so large that the leftovers often make a full meal in and of themselves.

  • Pros: Unpretentious in the middle of Beverly Hills, quality food, honest service
  • Cons: Too many choices

Contrary to its posh zip code, this no-frills deli serves up authentic East Coast-style eats.

by Contributor

In Short
From its brown vinyl booths, "wood" Formica tables and motherly waitresses who greet diners with a platter of pickles and sauerkraut, this cozy no-nonsense deli house is where the Jewish "early bird special" bunch heads for some old-fashioned comfort food. Though some pastrami aficionados claim nothing in SoCal comes close to New York-style deli bliss, CNN legend Larry King thinks otherwise--he starts his days religiously with a Nate 'n Al's breakfast. With dozens of variations on the beloved deli sandwich, first-time diners should start with the house specials. The Nate 'n Al wedges a two-inch-thick pile of lean pastrami between slices of seeded rye, crowned with a slice of beefsteak tomato and creamy Russian dressing. Well known for its brisket, the Brentwood is topped with watery cole slaw. The Beverly flaunts its posh upbringing with a more elegant roast beef, cooked medium rare. Traditional deli sides are also well represented. A matzo ball bobs in a lightly salted chicken broth, and latkes are thick disks of shredded potatoes. But lest one forget this is Beverly Hills, folks can order such exclusive items as wild-caught nova salmon and certified Angus corned beef.

Great Jewish Deli

by rudette

Very authentic deli - you can tell by the crowd of old-timers who clearly wouldn't accept a less-than-perfect matzo ball soup. I love that they give you a bowl of pickles while you wait, and I really love that there are two kinds of pickles and one of them is my favorite kind, half-pickled (green on the outside, white on the inside) which is hard to find. Excellent, perfect reuben. Lunch can get crowded but dinner is very chill. If you're sick of shopping, go check out the museum of TV + Radio across the street.

High-end deli

by dmenkes

Their matzo ball soup was really good, and my turkey on rye was very tender and flavorful. This place gets insane right after noon so I suggest coming a bit early. Parking is very difficult as well. The clientele is on the older side and you'll hear crotchety complains occasionally coming from different booths. By the time we left, the place was absolutely packed and there was a very long line for lunch. I'd go back but I'm afraid of showing up 5 minutes too late.

  • Cons: very crowded, no parking
