On the edge of Pasadena, this museum offers incredible history and quality. It has a great variety of exhibits, Van Gogh, Degas, etc and is a really nice size. The museum is actually fairly small but you can still take a few hours time perusing the art. It's one of my favorite art museums. Once you're done visiting you can pop down the street to Old Pasadena to help round out the experience for the day.
- Pros: Quality of Art, Variety, Parking
- Cons: None

This is a great place to go on the weekend. They have a nice collection of art work, the museum itself is beautiful, not too big.
- Pros: Great Art
Two thousand years of art tucked into one city block.

In Short
Located on Old Town Pasadena's western edge, this venerable art collection is one of the best-known in SoCal and among the finest in the world. Thanks to a major redesign in 1999 by starchitect Frank Gehry, the galleries follow an organic flow with natural overhead lighting and subtly tinted walls. Gone are the dead ends that once plagued the space, and great objects await visitors at the end of every vista. Outside, gardens yield a gorgeous space for wanderers to enjoy. The incomparable collection includes great Renaissance and Old Master paintings, a large body of work by the Blue Four group (which included Klee and Kandinsky), paintings, drawings and bronzes by Edgar Degas, and even a "Madonna and Child" by Raphael. Step down the lovely spiral staircase to enter the downstairs galleries, home to a selection of Southeast Asian and Indian sculptures.
Just a wonderful museum-going experience

The Norton Simon isn't the largest museum I've ever visited, but it does house some of my favorite pieces -- from the the ballet dancers of Degas to the Renaissance views of Venice's Piazza San Marco by Canaletto. There's always an interesting "visiting" show to view. I recommend visiting the museum early on the weekend...during the week it's packed with school children. If you're a museum "stroller" like me, you might not appreciate their "enthusiasm". You can usually get through the entire museum in a couple of hours (again...if you're a "stroller) and then have a late lunch/early dinner in Old Town Pasadena. If you're a Westsider...make a day of it and drive out to the San Gabriel Valley and visit the Norton. You won't regret it.

This museum is a very popular museum in Los Angeles. The museum has a huge collection of famous artwork from throughout the world. Much of the mUseum concentrates in the finest European art in the world. There is a collection of Van Gogh paintings, including one of his self-portraits.
There is usually one exhibit that is constantly changing; however, all the artwork housed is simply extraordinary.
The museum has free parking and students go for free if you show a proper id.
The more well-known museum in Los Angeles is the Getty Museum but the Norton Simon is one of the best.
Please visit! You should not miss this!

The Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena is known for it's private collections of art from various parts of the world such as Europe, America, and Asia. They have different art pieces and exhibits such as sculptures and paintings.
Right now they have exhibits such as Frank Lloyd Wright's Japanese Woodblock prints.

I went to Norton Simon Museum a couple of times already but mostly for a school assignment. However, each time I have been there I still admire all the great paintings and sculpture. My favorite paintings are those with Jesus and the 12 apostles theme. I never tire of admiring the symbolism and the interpretations I could get out of the paintings. If you are a student and have a valid ID, you can get in free.

I really enjoy art museums, and I recently visited this one for the first time. This museum has a very nice collection of paintings, drawings, sculpture, and other forms of art. They have alot of European pieces, but also some American and Asian, ranging from the 14th century to current times. They do guided tours of exhibitions, have family programs so you can bring the kids, and they also have art-related films. They also have free admission in the evening on the first Friday of each month, which is cool.
Interesting museum for the art lovers

This art museum is perfect for parents wanting their kids to experience great art in a relaxed setting. It has a collection full of important masterpieces by artists such as Rembrandt, Renoir, Rubens, Monet, Picasso , Asian art, and some 20th century pieces that children will find interesting, if not downright funny.
Part of the renovation is a huge and wonderful sculpture garden, the Museum Bookshop is full of children's books and art supplies; it's a great place for unusual gifts and stocking stuffers.

This is such a lovely museum-- and it is not so grand in size so as to be overwhelming. You really can spend one day here and see everything. They have an incredible selection of Degas-- paintings, chalks and statues, but my favorite pieces are the Modigliani (of his wife, who commited suicide upon his death, even tho pregnant with his child, as she couldn't bear to imagine life without him), Picasso's Woman with Book, which is just divine, and a Kandinsky which literally seems to orbit off the wall if you look long enough. (Sigh!)
