Get the Trio of Sorbets
by kidhendrix at Citysearch
The Hotel Bel-Air provided a meal that was every bit as good as you would expect based on its reputation and its price. First class service, beautiful setting, and outstanding food. I MUST recommend the trio of sorbets. It is the most creative, innovative dessert I have had at any Los Angeles restaurant. I know it sounds basic, but it's visual presentation is stunning. It also tastes wonderful, and the selection of flavors is unique (not just the usual raspberry, strawberry, coconut offered at most places). Get this dessert!
- Pros: Trio of sorbets is amazing
- Cons: Very expensive
Plush ambiance with a price

We ate on the terrace and there is no question that this is a beautiful place to dine. Just be ready to pay the price. Our family of four had four salads and drinks and the bill came to $122 before the tip! Wow! I would recommend skipping the luch and walking around the garden. It is defintely worth the drive from surrounding areas. This is a beautiful hotel.
- Pros: ambiance
Elegant, style over substance

This IS a beautiful place, in the traditional sense, with the best of silver and service. Waiters are gracious, if a bit mechanical, and the food is simply good. NOT great. Not even close, although the waiters act like it is, as do the regulars who like to be seen there. Traditional French which would barely make the top 20 percent in an East Coast city.
- Pros: Setting
- Cons: Average food, high prices
Star Sightings Almost Certain

While I've only eaten at the Hotel Bel-Air a handful of times, I always see a celebrity. One time is was Pamela Anderson. The last time it was Farrah Faucett - who by the way ate 2 pieces of lettuce and one bite of pasta - OK, so I was looking over my shoulder. Now, back to the food. The food is very good, although the menu is nothing special. Fairly basic offerings. The hotel and restaurant though offer a gorgeous environment - very calming with tons of flowers everywhere. It's a beautiful, relaxing spot.
