Fake Reviews Below?

by virginiamanahan

I would note that 3 of the 4 awful reviews below, on the main page, appear to be from individuals that haven't reviewed anything else -- suggesting that they might not be real persons. Considering all the turmoil that the restaurant went through (according to the owner, yes, but it sounds fairly legit, albeit a little dramatic, and has been confirmed by former employees) I would venture to guess that some of the neighbors and others who caused this drama used user review sites like this one to add to Doughboy's downfall.

As a huge fan that misses Doughboy's dearly, I just wanted to point this out so as to prevent the good Doughboy's name from ever being tarnished more than it deserved. You can have your opinion that it was overrated (I'd disagree) or pine about the wait (agreed) but there's no proof or even suggestion that it was teeming with vermin, aside from a single post. The original location was probably the best but I'd be hesitant to believe all you read on here... We Miss You, Dougboy's.

  • Pros: Delicious food, low prices
  • Cons: Heck of a wait, and closed

GO ANYWHERE ELSE!

by foodpublisher

NOW ON HIGHLAND - Besides the dry meat, hard bread, flavorless soup and horrible service I was attacked by hundreds of black flies!! If your hungry try roadkill, it's probably better since I would not have to wait an hour for a waiter to bring it to me.

I wouldn't even bother with this place...

by toermo

Bad food, bad, service, bad experience overall. I used to think this place was good when it was in the old location. I think the staff must hate the owner, and it shows. This place was dirty and out of almost everything on the menu. What was left over, was flavorless and stale. I will never return. Too bad because it used to be a pretty cool place to eat.

  • Pros: no pros left
  • Cons:  the food, the service, and the cleanliness

so bummed their closed

by cideways

I know its only temporary, but I was really bummed when I attempted to have my favorite soup yesterday.

I must admit I haven't tried everything on the menu, I just stick to what I know. But even before fatty Oprah divulged on television how good their Red Velvet cake is, I was a huge fan. Can't wait till this place reopens.

I went to the one on 3rd today and it was closed and the windows had paper all over them. Guess they went out of business.

Trendy Lame Dirty

by flyingdutchman

I work one block from the Highland location. It has been packed everyday since it opened. I have gone in several times with co-workers and had to wait for a table, then wait for service. The waits can be quite long. Once, we were given a free meal because we had waited so long for our food. Accidents happen, places can be short-staffed. By itself, slow service would not necessarily convince me to never go back. But I have gotten sick twice at this place !! They have a "B" letter grade posted in the window, which does not scare me off so much. I've eaten at some pretty seedy places and been fine. I don't know whether my food was contaminated, but something is not right in that kitchen. Besides that, I am not a fan of the flavors. The Doughboy salad, made with boiled chicken, tasted like something from the Ralph's refrigerator. If you want this type of sanwich-salad food with snotty trendy people around, I would recommend Cheebo on Sunset. At least the food is better there. And I have never gotten sick.

  • Pros: Convenient Location
  • Cons: Mediocre cooking, unsanitary, crowded, slow

Closed for over 6 months

by sweetsia

Pretty sure this place has been close for over 6 months now. . . If you're in the neighborhood, try The Little Next Door [which is literally next door to the space formerly occupied by Doughboys] or Joan's on 3rd. If you don't mind going a little further west, Clementine is alway a great option.

VERMIN INFESTATION!!!!

by foodhead8

DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY... Once again, this place has proven to be one of the dirtiest places in town. It was closed again Aug 17th for a few days for VERMIN INFESTATION!! Doughboys has a bogus sign saying its because they were remodeling their kitchen -BS. This place has dirty floors, dirty waiters, and dirty food. If you want to be trendy and stupid, go ahead, eat here, I think Ratatouille is the chef!

DO NOT EAT HERE UNLESS YOU WANT SURPRISE MEAT IN YOUR FOOD.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Vermin
