Great service, bad lighting at night
by cafeconnoisseur at Citysearch
I've been challenging myself as a student at UCLA to explore the non-Starbucks/CoffeBean/Peet's cafes in the West LA/Santa Monica area and have been to quite a number of local cafes in the area.
I went to Stir Crazy late at night to study - bad idea. There is a lot of mood lighting and it's very difficult to read. However, drinks are great (they have for-here mugs), service is amazing (the barista was very friendly and came multiple times to fill up people's coffee), prices are average, pretty sure it's cash only, and there is a tiny tiny parking lot behind the shop but you'll find more luck on the street late at night.
- Pros: Great service, great drinks
- Cons: Parking could be a challenge
Best Coffe Shop in Los Angeles
by egdrive at Citysearch
This is one of the most fantastic coffee shops to be found in Los Angeles. If you've had it with all the major chains of Starbucks, Pete's, and Coffee Bean and Leaf, you should definitely check this place out. It is reminds me of the neighborhood feel of the coffee shops in San Francisco. The staff is always friendly, remembering your drinks and name. Can't beat having free internet and the menu is quite inventive and ambitious for a small shop. Parking can seem to be a problem but I just found out that there's always free parking in the back of the shop. Lot's of locals, industry folk and artisans. Can't say enough about how much I love this place. Oh, and it's insanely clean!!!
A bit small
by thelwani at Citysearch
Nothing spectacular, ok spot to go to, a bit small and dark. My sandwich cheese and sunny dried tomotoes was really gross. Pay attention to the signs for parking.
Bottomless cups of coffee and jazzy tunes fuel screenwriter hopefuls in this cozy cabin.

In Short
This coffee nook provides a rustic respite from the trendy clutter of Melrose boutiques. Writer types with laptops flock here during the day, drinking cup after cup of java and looking askance at patrons who talk too loudly. Wood paneling on the walls resembles logs, and benches are upholstered in cowboy fabric. Gourmet sandwiches with such sophisticated fillings as goat cheese, roasted peppers and fresh basil are served, as are many desserts like Boston cream pie.
$2 Bottomless cup of coffee
by fvillegas at Citysearch
$2 dollars for a bottomless cup of coffee. Cash only. The food is average. No wifi as of yet and the likelihood of them getting some is slim to none.
The Best!

This is my favorite coffee shop and they definately reward you for being a regular. Not pretentious, great music and wonderful coffee.

good stuff
by renie at Citysearch
if you think coffee shops are for paying too much for burnt nasty coffee go to starbucks. this place is good stuff at a good price for good people who think coffee shops are for sitting and talking with friends, reading, writing, or just thinking while taking some time for yourself.

Love This Place
by breakbeat_addict at Citysearch
I'm not a huge fan of bright lights (who is really?) and when I go to a Starbucks I'm always reminded of why I stay away, aside from the too-harsh house blend. It's those lights, and that oftentimes loud music they have on. This place is the antidote for that, with a couple of low lamplights in the corners of the room. There's barely enough light to throw a shadow, so the room itself is very dark and very intimate. The coffee's not bad either. I highly suggest this night owl-friendly spot.
- Pros: Dark, Chilled vibe, Hot cocoa is great
- Cons: Eerie for some, Not for first dates, Parking is weird
