Strong drinks

by willford at Citysearch

We enjoy this dive. It is hard to find parking on

weekends so drive with friends. The drinks are strong.

Note the brass signs on the booths of former patrons.

The bathrooms are far away and thru a door into the hotel area. One of the females in our group was followed by some creep so watch your back. We

had a birthday party here a few weeks ago and it

was great. Fun place for a group.

  • Pros: Good grilled swiss cheese sandwich..
  • Cons: Parking and bathroom

Old Hollywood Revisited

by sbelgard at Citysearch

Started going to the Bounty when I first moved to LA. There was some sort of fascination everytime I passed that Food & Grog sign. What the hell was that? The first time I ventured there, my old college roommate and I sat at the Jack Webb table with the high back red booth. Each time was a different table with a different celebs name on the gold plaque on the wall. Always enjoyed having Kathy serve us (she appeared in "Pillow Talk"), although she's since retired. The place became a second home, so much so that I had my rehearsal dinner there. If you want old Hollywood at old Hollywood prices....the Bounty is da place for you. Keep the business going...it'll be a shame if it goes like the Derby, Chasen's, the Ambassador and others.

Where Everybody Knows Your Name....

by calilove_92 at Citysearch

My friend discovered this hidden gem and took me there for lunch one day and I fell in LOVE!!!! The old salty patrons that have been coming for 30+ years, the former busboy turned owner, and the sweet barmaid all make this my favorite place to hide in the middle of the day. I can personally tell you they make some pretty stiff drinks and the soups and burgers are to die for. I plan on trying the fish and chips or cobb salad next. I look forward to my weekly voyages on the high seas in the middle of Koreatown. If you decide to pay them a visit tell 'em Dolly and Herb sent ya. :)

  • Pros: The people, the food, and the decor!
  • Cons: Parking or lack there of....

Great Food...Fantastic Value

by northcoastsf at Citysearch

I just love this place so much. It's NOT Trendy, NOT Hip and Definetly NOT In-Style. That's what is so good about it. This is your classic 1930's Restaurant & Bar. Dark wood interior, red naughahyd (sp?) booths, very old school. It's a comfy environment to just hang-out, chat, meet people, etc... Sit at the bar, you're bound to meet on old-timer that was a journalist or reporter, that will be happy to spend an hour telling all his war-stories, or curl up in big cushy red booth with your sweethart.

The food here is very good and an exceptional value. They have various specials every day, that are always available (no time restrictions). A complete dinner for $8.95, that just can't be beat anywhere else.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

  • Pros: Atmosphere, Food, Prices

A nautical watering hole with some of the city's best drinks and service--minus the seasickness.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
There are a few portholes on the walls and models of tall ships here and there, but the dark wood interior and low-beamed ceiling are what really give off the feeling of being in the galley of a sailing ship. It's all very lush, solid and serious--not at all done in a tacky chain sort of way. Take a seat at the all-wood bar and enjoy vintage sounds from a jukebox that still plays 45s (complete with skips). Another great feature is the professional, classy and personal service--the way you'd like to think it must have been in the old days. Hungry? Grab a dark-red leather booth and order a reasonably priced steak or pork chop. Thirsty? The Bounty boasts one of the strongest pours in town.

The Draw
Lots of old-timers and plenty of artsy young folks from the newly popular Koreatown.
