love this place great service and food

I am suprised to see some of the reviews here. So I will make a point to write something nice. People can be sooo negative and just plain mean. I for one love this place. I have had a great time everytime my family and I go. Service and food is always great. They do tend to get busy though. I have learned that a reservation helps. Try their foi gras fantastic! Beautiful view too.
I suggest to anyone that if you are that dissapointed in food and service you should let a manager know while you are there. Anyone who dines pretty much knows that. Why wait and write a nasty review, shameful if you ask me. I see people complain all the time about things that can be easily solved.
Remember it's just food and drinks; dining with friends is supposed to be fun
I love this place and look forward in returning
- Pros: view, food, service
- Cons: gets very busy at times
HORRIFIC service, terrible for special occasions

I happen to be the friend who always ends up planning the birthday dinners and such... I had a friend that was not into drinking or the typical Los Angeles scene, so we went to The Getty Restaurant for dinner... I heard it had great views, and amazing food. It was my best friends birthday, and we decided to sit down about ten minutes before our reservation to order drinks and appetizers while we waited for our fourth to arrive... The hostess said it was no problem, and welcomed our party to our table, asking who the special birthday girl was. The Waitress didn't come for like 15 minutes. And it took her another 15 minutes just to bring our waters. Then 10 more minutes for our drinks. Then we never even got a salad we ordered as an appetizer. She was rude to us the entire meal, and she never even checked on us once when we got our food (which came out extremely dry....) It was an awful experience. The restaurant was not even busy. The server's name was Lauren, so if you get her, ask immediately to be seated else where....
- Pros: Scenic views
- Cons: service!
DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE
by koba_yulia
My Husband decided to surprise me and booked table on Sat night. When we arrived at the restaurant, I felt that very typical smell of food that you can smell at any bad diner place. We were seated by the window where the air was better. I have ordered "orange glazed duck breast" in about 20 min the waiter brought a nice looking dish with plain duck breast resting on some rice and oily tasteless souce. When I cut the meet I saw red juice coming out, the meet was raw. I love rear to mid. stakes but poultry MUST be cooked well!
I asked the waiter to take my meet and cook it properly. In 10 min I got exactly same meet!!!
I was hungry and dissapointed.
- Pros: view
- Cons: No music
Only good for the view

With glass windows all around, the view is beautiful - but then again you could just eat outside with food from the kiosk. Our food was OILY. I ordered the frittata and could barely stomach half becaue of the oil and NO taste. My BF ordered a lamb sandwich. He expected it to be on a "soft roll" but it came out as a panini - pressed in more oil. He said it was super greasy and not that tasty. We were sorely disappointed but even more so when it took 30 minutes to get our check and pay. We are glad the Getty was free!
- Pros: View
- Cons: Slow service, food was just average
An okay restaurant, nothing to rave about
by annie8485
Over-rated ambiance and over-priced. Snobby & unfriendly wait staffs. Okay tasting food. Too congested, tables are too close to each others.
Bringing the museum restaurant into the next millennium, with views that give a new meaning to "haute" cuisine.

The Scene
California haute cuisine in a Richard Meier room overlooking the City of Angels--does it get any better? Oh yeah, and there's the art. White curves, glass walls and high ceilings create gorgeous modern dining space--all overlooking an unrivaled panorama of L.A. and surrounding Santa Monica mountains.
The Food
Elegant, modern California cuisine from Chef Anthony Jacquet fits in perfectly with the Getty's setting, which strives to contextualize itself within the L.A. experience. The lunch menu's star exhibitor is the lobster risotto, resplendent and complex with sweet, tender claw meat, fresh vegetables, basil and preserved lemon. Free-range chicken breast is stuffed with aromatic goat cheese and shiitake mushrooms, and maple glazed Tasmanian salmon perches haughtily, aspiring to Richard Meier, on diced potatoes, rich with green garlic aioli and rappini. The delicate pear and hazelnut Napoleon is the perfect coda. Dinner entrees include venison medallions, Muscovy duck and pan roasted arctic char.
Great lunch spot

Been twice for lunch. Wonderful location, yesterday we could see the entire city and all the way to the ocean. The food is good, not fabulous, but the expansive dining room with its fresh white linens and the gorgeous view is really the reason to go. It's a splurge... parking is $8 and a three course lunch for two ran us about $80 after tip. But if the weather's great, go for a leisurely lunch and walk on the grounds of the Getty, it's a great way to spend an afternoon.
- Pros: view, view, view
I am impressed!!
by brandie911
My husband and I went to lunch here and were so impressed we decided to take my best friend here for her birthday dinner. The food was fantastic. The menu offers something for everyone. Our server was knowledgable of both the menu and wine list. She was prompt with drinks and had all course spread out perfectly. The lead waiter checked on us to ensure our steaks were cooked to our liking. The chef accomidated our request for fresh fruit for dessert. The view is amazing! It was so nice to get away from the city and relax in this tastefully elegant decor.
- Pros: food, service and atmosphere
- Cons: None
An Amazing Space and Overall Experience
by elenireads
My lunch at the Getty was wonderful. The server was informed, gracious and intelligent.
My lunch and the lunches of my three companions were delicious. But it's the views from the restaurant and the experience of being inside such a magnificent structure, floating high above the city, that really make the Getty restaurant incomparable, as far as I am concerned. Just being there puts me in a dreamy state. It's my favorite place for special occasions.
Great choices of yummy ice cream, too.
- Pros: beautiful, delicious, great service
- Cons: It's not cheap . . .
Fantastic every time...

I went for Sunday Brunch (my fourth visit to the restaurant), and while it's always been great, our brunch was hands down my favorite meal I've ever had their. You can't beat the views, and the Chef's flavors are absolutely of the moment. You can spend a little less at other places for "all you can eat", but why on earth would you do that when the Restaurant at the Getty Center puts so much thought into their food and service?
- Pros: Service, Food, View
- Cons: Parking
