a little piece of Mexico in Silver Lake
by faheddings at Citysearch
I love the decor, its fun, like a little piece of Mexico right here in Silver Lake. The food is great, its never crowded, and there are even vegetarian options. Vegetarianstry the potato tacos, theyre only on the lunch menu, but you can order them anytime. My carnivore pal really enjoys the chicken mole entree.
- Pros: Inexpensive, Friendly Staff, No wait
- Cons: charge for refills
Authentic south-of-the-border fare and vibrant family atmosphere offer a true taste of East L.A.

In Short
Gaudy decor recalls the Mexican kitsch institution El Cholo, but this is the real deal: festively costumed waitresses and roving mariachis who, for small tips, engage in four-part harmonies. Homemade tortillas and queso fundido--molten cheeses with additions like chipotle peppers or crumbled chorizo--whet the appetite for camarones Costa Azul (bacon-wrapped, cheese-stuffed shrimp), and molcajete azteca, a bowlful of panela cheese, cactus and any combination of grilled steak, chicken or shrimp, all in tomato-chili salsa. Flan follows for dessert.
Lesser of the three location

I wasn't feeling this joint when i went. My Pops have been taking me to this joint since i was a kid. I love the Chavez location as well as the Wilshire. Both AMAZINGLY good. This location has almost the same menu, but a little smaller. I couldn't get my nopalitos unless i ordered something for two. My husband hates nopalitos. So i had to settle for something else. The service here was really weak. It was pretty slow, but we still waited on our food, and refills. It's nice, but if you really want to try it, go to Wilshire blvd, or Cesar Chavez ave, you'll be in for a better treat.
- Pros: Decent Menu
- Cons: , poor parking
Ooh La La!

What is not to love? Just start at the top of the menu and work your way down each time you go back to visit. Nothing disappoints. Don't forget they serve braekfast too.
- Pros: Inexpensive, Friendly Staff, No wait
- Cons: Bright
