Java joint joins the Watts Towers in bringing an old community favorite back to life.

In Short
Once a community cultural center that opened after the 1965 riots, the walls of this hip cafe are now adorned with photos and memorabilia of classic soul, R&B and blues artists. Guests drawn from the community and tourist crowds can dine either indoors or out. The restaurant serves up piping hot gourmet coffee by Howling Monk, a black-owned coffee company, along with a Sunday brunch buffet and Sunday dinner with staples like collard greens, hot water cornbread, mac 'n' cheese and sweet potato pie.
