This is the place where I will go with my husband for a romantic evening... Sipping a nice bubbly on the courtyard will already bring us in a relaxed mood and when we make our choice from the menu we know: this is a wonderful place.

The food is authentic and of great quality.

I can only recommend this place.

Parking on the street is possible, however there is valet parking.

My husband and I have been going to Chez Mimi for years. We usually go on special occasions. Wonderful ambiance. Wonderful food. But make a reservation! It's always packed.

  • Pros: Ambiance, Good Food
  • Cons: Must make reservation, service can go either way

Six of us went to Chez Mimi on a sunday night and had a very enjoyable dining experience. The waitstaff was attentive. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. The french onion soup is great and not too heavy or too salted. The roasted chicken was tender, the mussels plentiful and fresh and the liver was yummy too.

Its a very romantic restuarant and would have been even better if the weather allowed us to dine outside, but it was too chilly.

I was actually really excited about this place once I saw their menu online. Unfortunately, whoever I spoke to on the phone was so rude, I never made it in.

In Short
Heart-shaped wreaths, flickering tea lights and crackling fireplaces create the feel of a countryside cottage. An unobtrusive waitstaff serves plates of steaming cassoulet, garlicky escargot, dark onion soup blanketed with melted Brie and bouillabaisse studded with shrimp, mussels and whitefish. A small dessert menu features creme brulee and tarte Tatin, a serving of apples and vanilla-bean ice cream over a buttery crust.

For a restaurant that positions itself the way Chez Mimi does, they fail miserably accross the board. Food was bad overall. Salads were drowning in dressing, fish was overcooked and bland, pasta was soggy. Service was embarrasing. Its bad enough when a waiter is clueless to his duties, but when its brought to a managers attention and they blow you off too, then you really know where you stand. I was there on Valentines Day and the experience at Chez Mimi ruined the evening. Overall my experience was miserable and the only way I could see anyone wanting to eat here is if you HAD to eat french food and you were limited to 26th street and SanVicente. But you'd probably be better off going to the gas station accross the street and getting some french fries.

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: everything

It has been a few years since I've been back to Chez Mimi, and it hasn't lost any of its charm. A very romantic restaurant, with very good (not quite excellent) food, a decent wine list, and excellent deserts. A great alternative to Melisse when you are more interested in the romance than the food and don't want to take out a second mortgage.

Dinner at Chez Mimi--I don't even know where to begin it was so bad. I'm positive our server was on tranquilizers. He barely spoke two words to us after dropping off food that indeed looked like cheap hotel wedding service presentation complete with overly drenched greens in lame salad dressing. The halibut had the texture of how I assume squirrel meat would respond to cooking (can't vouch for squirrel meat taste). "sophisticated regulars" coming to this place.?? hmm, I thought we transported into a convalescent home outing on a cruise ship. If you trust people who think coogi sweaters and violet rayon pant suits understand the dining experience, then this place is for you. otherwise, I'd consider chez mimi if the world came to an end and it was the only place left with a working kitchen..and even then, I'd demand a different server.

  • Pros: great valet
  • Cons: service, food, staff

as a person in the food business i was very disappointed with Chez Mimi. The service was cutesy and the waiter said the same thing to the table next to us. The food was below average, over-cooked dry fish, un-inspiring side dishes, bland dull chocolate cake. But the worst was the dated, old-fashioned atmosphere, trying to be quaint but not cutting it. Tables too small and close together, too low lighting, too many small rooms. I felt like i was at Tavern on the Green in NYC. For tourists and people on a first date.

  • Pros: seating right away
  • Cons: food, lighting, menu choices

Very wonderful evening. The restaurant has a quaint french cottage feel. The food was very good, had the goat cheese tart:delicious! The entree filet mignon was perfect, and loved the sauce it was served with. Had the apple tart which was good, nothing amazing for me . Waiter was pleasent but got a bit distarted as it got busier. Price for 2 with corkage around $150, but worth it.
