great place!
by smbpromotions at Citysearch
This place is really nice the bartender makes great drinks. I had a great time! Another cool place is this brand new reggae/dub lounge on Tuesdays! The venue is perfect, not too big and not too small. Its called The Hollywood Canteen. Great outdoor setting plus indoor bar and restaurant. The music is amazing! They always have live bands + djs spinning the best reggae music in town! The crowd is very nice and relaxed and the drinks are amazing. Only $5 for 21+ and $15 for 18+. If you go tell the nice people at the door you heard of it from Sean. They are really cool unlike some other hollywood bouncers and such.
Get into the groove at this Eastside concrete jungle where music matters most.

The Scene
Hollywood pretension and hip-hop posturing take a back seat to the phat beats at this popping underground club that keeps it real. Gabah, which translates to "jungle" in Arabic, is located on the non-trendy stretch of Melrose Avenue east of Western. The intimate, leopard-spotted interior is divided into a main room, dance floor, lounge and stage area. A partially covered outdoor patio offers solace to chill and chat. Kangol-donning b-boys and girls shake it on a the sweaty, jam-packed dance floor as big-city bohemians nod their approval from the sidelines.
The Draw
Well-known local DJs like Dusk and Higher dig deep into their eclectic crates to serve up the best in rare groove, reggae, acid jazz and hip-hop. Live acts like the Black Eyed Peas, Breakestra and wax wizards like Cut Chemist are also known to stop by unannounced.
DON'T GO!

this place looked like someone's basement with some bamboo curtins hung up to try and make it cool. my friends and i went on a saturday night, there was no one there, and the smoking patio wasn't even open at 11pm. the dance floor was so dark because it seemed that they couldn't even afford to buy a lighting system. there were christmas lights around the dj booth to light the whole dance floor. how would you know if you were dancing with someone worth while? AVOID!
chill

as soon as we walked in my friend mentioned how it felt like we were walking into sometimes dimly lit house. but it was a cool vibe all tiki-ished out. Music was a 7 since im not to into the disco house style. Loved the ambiance. its was some peoples bday so they sang and gave out cupcakes which was pretty cool. Def a very chill adn unpretentios place. Seems like everyone knew each other which made me wish i had more of my group with me.
- Pros: music, atmosphere, fans!! whoo-hoo
- Cons: parking
Good Dancing
by shauente at Citysearch
Gabah had a really nice vibe. It definitely reminded me of the East Coast clubs I used to hang out it in. I went on a Saturday night and the music was excellent. The DJ mixed the hip-hop and reggae very well. The only sore point were the drinks. Everything I ordered tasted like water. But hey, you can always drink elsewhere and come here to dance all night.
- Pros: Inexpensive, Good Music
- Cons: Drinks not strong, Very Crowded
Nice

After waiting hours and hours to get into some crap club like Sangria in Hermosa, this place is refreshing. No pretension about letting people through the door--everyone's here to dance and listen to the DJ, so they pack 'em in.
- Pros: Good music
don't do it !

This place is magical they manage to make a Long Island fit into a shot glass and charge $8. for it. The band area is bigger then the dance floor.
- Pros: two exits
- Cons: the smell, the drinks, the price
good times

The Root Down on Thursday is badass-- great DJ playing a wicked set of ol'skool/soulful hip-hop and house. Chill crowd, excellent dancing, dug the breaker set before the dancefloor filled up to get everybody feeling fat beats. Cozy atmosphere unexpected from semi-sketchy location. Overall mellow vibe, ladies don't have to worry about skeevy guys.
- Pros: low cover, great dancing
Looking for good hip hop?

Nice chill place. Went to go see Jazzy Jeff (much thanks to Scottworth for the hookup) perform last year, I enjoyed his set. If you want GOOD hip hop, then come here. Though finding parking can be a pain there.
