The most kind and compassionate lady prepared me for eye surgery. When I informed her that my veins are small and deep and roll and collapse and that after the first attempt to put the needle in fails, I become very woozy, ill and usually faint. She immediately was understanding, reached into her tray for her smallest needle, and then bowed her head to ask our Lord to help her do it right on the first try in order to spare me that ordeal. She did get it right on her first attempt. What wonderful treatment!!
Pros: Wonderful staff and excellent doctors
Cons: None

I, too, shopped around and selected Duke University Eye Center for my procedure. In fact, I've had several different procedures performed there by different doctors over the last 5 years. The physicians have all been professional, highly skilled, kind, caring and friendly. The staff members were the same, without exception. One man told me he has brought his mother to Duke University Eye Center for over 20 years and declared, "This is as good as it gets." He drives from his home in this area to the coast to get her and bring her to her eye appointment . Another patient told me her sight had been saved by a Duke University Eye Center physician. I would not go anywhere else.
Pros: Excellent service
Cons: None

I "shopped around" before my proceedure, but I found myself at Duke Center for Vision Correction. I could not have made a better decision. Everyone from the front desk staff to the MDs could not have cared more. All of my questions and concerns were addressed. The doctor and his technicians were great! Some places make you feel like just a number, not Duke Center for Vision Correction. It has been over a year and I could not be any happier. I would recommend Duke to any and everyone!!
Pros: Everyone cares about you.

I would NEVER recommend LASIK to anyone after my horrible experience at Duke. Please do not be misled into thinking that going to Duke gives you a chance at better results. I would pay lots of money to go back to my life with glasses. Unfortunately, LASIK is irreversible so I do not have this choice. My eyes are permanently damaged and nobody at Duke seems to care. In fact, my eye problems have been consistently downplayed by the LASIK MD and staff at Duke. The MD and staff want you out of their office quickly when you have a bad outcome. If you have a good outcome, count your blessings although long-term complications can still occur. If you have a bad outcome, prepare yourself for an experience that will likely make you lose all faith in the Ophthalmology profession and significantly affect your quality of life (just think about life with chronically painful eyes or poor vision that cannot be corrected by glasses or contact lenses). That is what you are risking in this elective surgery. Proceed at your own risk or better yet, do not enter this place that has the audacity to damage eyes on a daily basis without a care in the world and yet refer to itself as a "vision correction center". I believe that Duke itself should investigate the LASIK center at Duke because in my opinion, it is a major embarrasment to the institution and in need of a major overhaul.

I was a bad candidate for LASIK eye surgery, my vision was permanently ruined, and my surgeon, Dr. Terry Kim, MD of Duke Laser Vision Correction Center, refused to continue to see me as per contract . Yes, I paid for follow-up visits, for which I demanded a refund and eventually received... but hey - my vision is ruined for life. Before you consider LASIK anywhere, read The LASIK Report at (just Google LASIK Report) . I wish I had read something like this report *before* I committed to this irreversible elective surgery. Dr. Terry Kim, MD didn't bother to inform me that the lasik flap never heals and that lasik dry eye is common and can be permanent (the FDA LASIK website now discloses that LASIK dry eye can be permanent). For all of you out there considering LASIK... you should know that wavefront treatments actually INCREASE distortions in the cornea on average. Wavefront treatments are merely marketing hype and don't deliver! LASIK eye surgery *reduces* visual QUALITY...and almost NEVER improves it. The corneal nerve damage from LASIK that leads to ocular surface disease in many patients is likely permanent. LASIK is a bad surgery and judging by experiences of former patients you are unlikely to receive fully informed consent for LASIK at this center. To talk to other patients about LASIK and to find reams of information your doctor hopes you never discover... Google lasikflap and find lasikflap forum. My vision isn't normal even with glasses or contacts after LASIK eye surgery with Dr. Terry Kim, MD... and my eyes sting and burn several years after my botched surgery. The 'new technologies' that are brought out when complications from older technologies become embarrasing are NOT SAFER. Read The LASIK Report to find out more. I know of 4 patients who were botched while they were Duke Unversity employees. These guys botched the chief financial officer of their own department! Stay FAR, FAR away! Steer clear of eye surgeons bearing lasers!
