Great Ramen in WLA

I've been going to Asahi Ramen for many years and it has always been consistant. They get you in and out for lunch, I only have a short time for lunch and they do a great job. The soy sauce ramen is my favorite and has had the same flavor as when I moved to Los Angeles. Not a large menu, but they do it right.

Ramen in hot broth for a cold day

With so many small Japanese eateries around the area, we weren't sure if this would be another typical ramen house (same relative taste/broth for everything). When we stepped in, we were kindly greeted in Japanese by the waitress and promptly seated. I ordered the Tanmen Ramen which was stir-fry vegetables with Ramen swimming in hot soup with the choice of ground pork or chicken, and a side order of gyozas. The service was extremely fast, and the food arrived steaming in front of us- perfect for a cold day. The stir-fried veggies and meat were topped on the ramen, and were extremely fresh. The gyozas were flavorful, but not greasy. The place is clean, comfortable, and inexpensive for the portions that they serve. I barely finished half my bowl, but it doesn't detract from the delicacy of the food. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a hot bowl of ramen at a casual sit-down place. The only bad thing is that customers have to go outside and around the store to use the restroom.

Great portions and good, clean place for awesome asian quick-dishes

Went on a late-afternoon while visiting from out of town. My sister lives close by and had always wanted to try it. We split the bowl of wonton and noodles soup, which is SO huge there's no way girls like us could eat the whole thing alone (we didn't even eat half of it and we SPLIT it!). Also got a side of fried rice which was some of the best we've had (so fresh!). Perfect place for take-out or if you're watching your budget. I love these kind of places with Asian soups and such. Really, really delisious, somewhat health-conscious and well-priced. Definately go and expect to take food home with you because the portions are HUGE!!!

• Pros: Great portions, prices, friendly staff, quick eats.
• Cons: Somewhat lacking in design, but it's to be expected for this kind of place.

Great option for a cold day!

This place is the BEST for a cheap dinner on a cold day. All the ramen literally steams up the windows and it gets super warm and cozy inside the tiny dining room. The bowls of ramen are absolutely gigantic, so ask for an extra bowl and share between two people. If you're hungry for more than soup, start off with an appetizer; we always get the very substantial plate of gyoza, and two people can easily eat to their content off that and a bowl of noodles. I've had the wonton and the curry ramen, and I think I liked the stronger flavor of the curry a little better, though next time I think I'll branch out and get something with more extravagant toppings. Even better than the food are the prices, last time I ate here, the total bill for two came to about 11 dollars. The inside is simple and relatively undecorated, but there's something nice and authentic about the environment that gives it a unique charm. Highly recommended!

Cheap noodles ... and lots of them!

This is THE place to go if you want to fill your belly for under $20. Super casual, super cheap and super people-watching is what you get. The classic noodle bowls are big enough for two ( the miso-flavored is the best) and the pickled cucumber appetizer gets things off to a tangy start. Drinks come in the can and the selection of Japanese magazines adds an authentic touch. Make sure to bring cash though -- no cards accepted!

• Pros: Cheap tasty food in a fun Japanese setting
• Cons: They don't offer root beer

Piping-hot bowls of springy ramen are the draw at this no-nonsense noodle shop.

In Short
Noodle- and budget-savvy Westsiders line up out the door of this the small, bright shop. Made-to-order ramen entrees start with a dish of pickled cucumber and quickly move on to generous portions of noodles served in broth. Basic shio ramen is topped with half a hard-boiled egg, pork slices and bean sprouts, while dressier bowls feature mabo tofu and steamed veggies. A few appetizers, cold noodle salads and rice dishes round out the menu.

Not worth the wait

I didn't like my ramen but only because I ordered the ramen w/ soy sauce based soup. But my boyfriend's ramen was really good. We went on a busy Saturday afternoon, it was packed and had a bit of a wait. Service is not good b.c they were so busy and place is tiny inside. Out of 3 women who worked there only 1 would help us even though the other 2 were not doing anything. Kind of annoying but if you get the kind of ramen you know you like, it's probably worth it.

cheap food, mediocre service

this place is great for those rare cold nights in la. the bowls are huge and the soup is pretty good. prices range from $5.50 to $8 for their bowls of soup. however, beware if you come in around 8:30 pm for dinner because they will rush you out the door.

Best Ramen in Los Angeles...So far

We have been on a citywide search for good noodles in Los Angeles. Most places don't even qualify to be called noodle houses, but this one does. This place is good. They have good noodles and great service. I recommend this place. Also try their cucumber and chicken appetizer. yum.
