WOW

by darrellnash22 at Citysearch

Aside from the gaudy decor, the waiters are amongst the rudest of any restaurant in los angeles! The waiters have a knack for slamming used flatware and silverware in one of the many "busboy-stops" conveniently located behind ever other booth..?

If that wasn't enough, THE FOOD COMES WITH MSG! You can ask for "no-msg" (small print at the bottom of the menu), but keep in mind they use the same cookware.

Make sure to double check your bill; if I hadn't I would of overpayed by $5.00.

HIGHLY UNRECOMMENDED!

  • Pros: Plenty of Parking
  • Cons: MSG, shyster staff, horrible decor

The vacuum restaurant

by enanke at Citysearch

I have gone to this place a couple of times. The first time was a little after 9:00 in the evening and they started to vacuum the restaurant while my date and I were still in the middle of our dinner! The second time they brought us a plate that we did not order and they almost did not want to take it back and at around 10:00 pm this waither shows up with doggy bags that we didn't request and asked us to pay the bill because the cashier had to leave! We felt insulted and complained with the manager who pretended not to understand English well. If you want to have a very bad service, rude waiters and eat some dust while having dinner I strongly reccomment this place.

The worst dining experience of my life!

by chibibaby at Citysearch

I've heard from many Chinese people that JR Seafood is the best place to get Chinese on the Westside, but that my friends is crap. I'm not sure what grade of meat they use at this place but chicken and pork aren't supposed to have a sponge-like texture. And the pork meat inside the dumplings was completely raw and mushy and when I told them that they just refried my half eaten dumpling and the rest of the plate, and guess what? They were still mushy. I ate 2 bites of my dinner and high-tailed it to the nearest In-N-Out. The lady screaming at the table next to us because she returned her inedible food to the kitchen and they still charged her for it sure didn't make for great ambience either.

Rough around the edges, this Hong Kong-style restaurant still lures Westsiders craving authentic Chinese fare.

The Scene
With heaping plates of lobster and shrimp on the table, no one seems to mind the less-than-sophisticated decor (think tacky wallpaper and year-round holiday lights). Groups of families and friends crowd the large dining room, sharing dishes on lazy Susans.

The Food
The flavors may be authentic, but the dishes are hardly refined. Shark's fin soup is hit-or-miss. Sometimes the delicacy is finely shredded, as it should be, but other times, the pieces are too big and cumbersome. (For traditional flavor, add a splash of red vinegar to your bowl.) Skip shrimp with spicy salt; there isn't enough of the zesty seasoning that usually makes this dish addictive. Opt instead for traditional sautéed lobster. Plucked fresh from the tank, the steaming crustacean comes slathered in a thick garlicky sauce. Or try the surprisingly light deep-fried tofu stuffed with minced shrimp. Slightly creamy mango pudding caps off dinner, compliments of the restaurant.

Decent chinese food in west L.A.

by monkfishliver at Citysearch

If you live in West Los Angeles and don't feel like driving all the way out to Alhambra/Monterey Park area for chinese seafood, this is a pretty decent place to go. I like the usual and popular dishes like the Lettuce Bun, Live shrimp and lobster, Clam dishes. And the prices are very reasonable.
